Regular Guys Replay in PM Drive...

Well... not yet but why not?

Outside of mornings Rock 100 is not doing much... why not replay the RG's in PM or even nights. I'm sure Axel and Nick are nice guys but in these economic times you could save money and give people what they want.

I always listen to the Opie and Anthony afternoon replays on Xm and you can hear Howard all day too.

I know the "Bull" tried this with Cletus but I'm talking about replaying the entire show from 3-7pm or 7pm-11pm...

How long before this happens?

PM drive is the timeslot that would make the most sense. I would imagine that an AOR station probably has one of the stronger listenerships in 6p-mid, and those listeners would probably want music (similar to CHR or urban, as compared to AC, oldies, or country). How well did 96 Rock do with Bubba The Love Sponge in 9p-mid way back when?

However, how far do you go before you morph into a "hot talk" station?

Not that it wouldn't be regarded as "comprehensively included in your existing salary," but the RG's may actually demand extra payment for having to carry the ball for BOTH drive time slots, even though it's a replay. And compensation is, of course, not something radio does anymore.

I think the station has the right to air any portion of the program but even if you paid them extra it would be cheaper than what they're paying Axel. I'm sure they could work out ratings bonuses for them in PM drive...

I think the interesting question for a non-syndicated show that replays is, how much do you gain vs. how much do you lose? Certainly, there are some listeners that you pick up that maybe don't catch it in the AM, but, how many listeners that heard the AM show and are then on their way home from work tune out because they caught it the first time around? And is it a net gain or a net loss?

Has anyone seen an afternoon replay like this in a market and know how the numbers bear out?

No one has done a replay per se. In addition to Cledus and the Bull, in 2002, Fox 97 added an afternoon voicetracked edition of Randy and Spiff, which lasted a few months until the flip to Jamz.

If this was done...it would be an act of budget cuts...so it is not out of the realm of possibility.

This idea was "executed" a few years back when Rude did mornings for 96rock and then they essentially re-ran the show on 105.7 that same afternoon. It was so lame that an appropriate metaphor cannot be inserted.

Bad examples... Rude did Mix in the mornings, 96 in the afternoon and it wasn't the same show. Randy and Spiff?

RG's are all talk, get great ratings and no one catches the entire show in the morning but could catch it on the way home. Whether it's been tried or not these are different times...

And I would listen in lieu of another Bad Company song in PM drive...

I was hoping someone could point out another way to have even less spots available for radio hosts. Thanks!

Overall, Hot Talk has done poorly in the PPM markets.

I wonder if that's the main reason why Westwood One has cancelled Tom Leykis.

"Do ya care?"
