regular nightly DX catches?

Ok, so there's a thread open regarding your toughest DX catches.

For this thread, what are your nightly "regulars"? (not including locals or anything you regularly receive in the daytime (without an external antenna - a few of the not-so-distant ones can be received midday with the aid of a Select-A-Tenna, but there's no trace without it (for example, KFWB is not listed, because it CAN be detected using my radio's built-in antenna in the daytime, but it's extremely faint)), but you can mention locals if they interfere with the DX catch.)

Radio used: Panasonic RQ-SW10 Shockwave (or RQ-SW20 - they're both the same and I own both)

Select-A-Tenna may have been used on some night stations to aid in identification, but all could be detected without it.

Here's some of mine:

550 - KUZZ Bakersfield, CA
560 - KSFO San Francisco, CA
580 - KMJ Fresno, CA
610 - KAVL Lancaster, CA & K___ San Francisco, CA (is it KEAR or KFRC?)

Not mentioned, but are ones I've heard on several occasions, just not at least almost every night: WBAP, WWL, KRVN, KTWO (now obliterated by XESDD), KRLD, WOAI, KSTP.

My furthest semi regular is KOA, a distance of about 1100 miles. I say semi regular since the hash from 840 WHAS gets it sometimes. KTNN is on my wish list, but no luck yet. I'm located in north Alabama.

From Southern Michigan, my farthest away regulars are KOA and WOAI, although the latter is no longer as reliable as before IBOC. I was able to hear KTNN a couple of weeks ago. I tried for them every day for a month to no avail last winter. Then the first night I tried for them this winter.. BOOM!

Here are my nightly regulars. The obvious Chicago and Detroit stations omitted, because I can hear them all on any given night.

Here in northern California, my list is similar to tfcwings' list. I decided to list a few 'DX' stations that come in so strong here in the bay area that I have either heard them occasionally during the day, or they at least come in so strong at night that they sound like a local:

720 KDWN, Las Vegas: So strong that I am actually hearing it now (2pm PST), though under static. At night it pegs my signal meter on my CC Radio from about 400 mi away (as the crow flies).

850 KOA, Denver: Depending on the bounce, it can (and often does) sound like a local.

KNX 1070, LA: Like KDWN, I can hear it now. It fades more than KDWN, otherwise very strong.

X??? 1090, Rosarita, MX: I believe this is a 50Kw station, but it sure sounds like the transmitter is across the street (are we sure it's not more that 50Kw, or is it just a strong beacon aimed at CA?). I pick this up 500 mi away much better than our local sports station, KTCT 1050, at night.

I used to get KOMO 1000 real well here, but now while I can always pick it up, it sounds much weaker than it used to. Wonder if they changed their pattern in the last couple years.

One last observation. While I get KNX like a local station at night, in the last year or so I've been hearing a canadian station (Vancouver?) on 1070 when KNX occasionally fades. This has happened quite often lately.

I just use a CC radio for my DXing, no fancy gear. I might want to upgrade; I'll start another thread for that question later. ;D

That would be CFAX Victoria. An hour or so east of Vancouver, KNZ comes in when you have the radio facing south/north and CFAX comes in when the radio faces east/west. My grandma used to complain about CFAX battling KNX, and I had to explain to her that we were, afer all in CFAX listening area.

Well judging from personal experience in that area among other factors, here are my comments:
530 - The Turks and Caicos blaster.
570 - Guessing a mix of Radio Reloj and maybe KLIF/Dallas.
670 - This one is a Cuban. It still gives WSCR/Chicago fits throughout much of the Midwest given the night.
700 - More than likely WLW/Cincinnati. I've heard it with no problem in Panama City Beach.
720 - Could be WGN.
740 - Possibly KTRH from Houston but this channel is a mess. When I vacationed in that area in 2004 KTRH was dependable every night.
750 - English here has to be WSB. There is a South American channel here too, either Colombia or Venezuela.
760 - If it's English, probably WJR.
840 - Likely WHAS/Louisville.
900 - Probably Mexico City. Can't remember the calls.
too much computer noise to make out 910 to 1090
1110 - WBT/Charlotte.
1120 - KMOX/St. Louis,
1200 - WOAI/San Antonio.
1530 - As said before, this is WCKY/Cincinnati. It's all sports but still keeps the religious talk overnight.

I don't know the upper frequencies too well.

Thanks, that's quite a catch from this little radio. Imagine what I could hear with a bevvy antenna and a REAL radio..

-Rob

Speaking of bevvy and REAL radio.... how much difference would it make over a walkman type radio?

For example, would it take a station that you didn't even know was there on the walkman, and make it sound like its transmitter was across the street (full noise quieting, 60-80dB snr, etc)?

Or, depending on conditions, might it possibly enable you to extend your daytime "listening" radius to that of the station's normal nighttime skywave service (assuming it uses one power / pattern 24/7)?

A LOT. I wish I had enough yard space for a bevvy antenna.

You northerners are a lot of fun. Now I'm hearing a religous station on 530 identifying as coming out of NYC.

I think that's not from NYC though
