"Regular Radio"

Over the weekend I saw "Liberty Heights", a movie set in Baltimore of 1954-55. A white Jewish kid was dating a black girl who lived in a nice house, and in her car she listened to this good music he had never heard before on a black station. He only listened to "regular" radio.

So, what stations might these have been?

WMAL at 630 AM was a "full service MOR" station. Could be that. I don't think DC had a Top 40 style station yet. But I could be wrong. I don't know what it could have been either. Maybe WINS from New York City?
