Relaunch I93?

A relaunch appears coming to Cumulus CHR “I93” 93.3 KLIF-FM Haltom City/Dallas. Cumulus has registered Hot933DFW.com, Hot933FM.net, Hot933Hits.com, Power93DFW.com, as well as a few potential decoys for other formats including Big933DFW.com, GoldHits933.com, SmoothJazz933.com, and 933JamsDFW.com. The registrations follows the recent hiring of former “Live 95.5” KBFF Portland Program Director Louie Cruz for the same position at KLIF-FM. While Clear Channel’s “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS continues to lead the market it is no longer dominating like it did prior to and in the aftermath of the premature passing of morning host Kidd Kraddick. In the August 2014 Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings KHKS led the market with a 6.1 share just ahead of Cumulus Country “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX’s 5.7. The two stations were tied for the lead as recently as May. KLIF-FM on the other hand has not been able to make up ground on KHKS as it continues to hover right below a 2 share.

A couple of options I hope would happen:

93.3 goes to some sort of rock format to compete with Eagle and/or Edge to finally see some competition between the rock formats that isn't just classic rock. Probably a "Click FM"-like format, but I don't think Cumulus has a station like that. But they do have an "Alt"-like format in Salt Lake City.

The Ticket or WBAP will simulcast down to 93.3 finally.


But I have a feeling this will happen:

Nothing and (D)i(e)93 will continue to suck up the 93.3 frequency with a below 2.0 share

A relaunch of a CHR format that will go heavy on rap music like we really need another one of these.

Spanish, again like we really need another one of these.

Hi We need an all 70's station or an all 80's station or the station could play 70's and 80's and no 60's that is something that Dallas Fort Worth is missing and that will compete with 98.7 kluv which is doing an little 60's and 70's and 80
s hits again please change 93.3 to an retro station?

We had that. Its Called KEOM 88.5 Which was all 70s for an eternity, just recently opened up to the 60s and 80s.
Theres Jack-FM Which is 80% 80s and 20% Everything Else.

KLUV is just about all 70s and 80s. Just wait a year or two and all the 60s will be gone from KLUV.

In short, no at this time DFW is not lacking here. 93.3 has consistently struggled since sign-on. i93 was the first format aside from the initial launch of "The Bone" that 93.3 has ever caught any ratings attention. So in my eyes, I would seriously doubt they would go back to any classics format. The classics are pretty well covered here by huge full power class C stations (heritage at that), and KLIF-FM would never be able to compete.

Will it still be Top 40 like KRBE in Houston? Or Rhythmic A/C?
 
Hi I think that 93.3 should change there format to an 70's and 80's format and not play the 60's hits?
 
Are we totally sure a relaunch is on the way? I've noticed some new imaging recently on I93, and even a new voice guy.

If a relaunch is imminent, it wouldn't be the best time to get all this new stuff!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember when 100.3 was "Wild 100.3," I think they were trying to do some re-imaging, probably some newer DJs, and had a new logo for their station just a couple of months (probably earlier) before their "Jack" flip in the summer of 2004 (not just talking about Russ Martin's morning show being on Wild from the old Live 105.3 and on April Fools 2004). Then again, it was 10 years ago so it's pretty vague to me now. But I do remember "Wild's" numbers being as low like 93.3's today.

I do gotta say that i93.3 has already lasted just as long as Hot and Wild 100.3 combined (93.3 as a CHR since 2009, and 100.3 as a CHR between 1999-2004).
 
A station with a crappy signal should do niche programming. Smooth Jazz has enough followers that adding tin foil to the antenna is not out of the question for them. So does Standards and Real Oldies, 60's-70 Soul (Who doesn't like Sam & Dave?), Real Classic Country and even Beautiful Music. You won't get rich doing any of these, but you can make enough money to clear payroll and keep the balance sheet in the black. It can be done, but it isn't easy.

Personally, I would LOVE to see....make that HEAR ...a classic country station that would cover the metro signal wide, or at least better than the 92.1 FM's and 95.9 The Ranch. I'm not talking the twangy ancient Ernest Tub and George Jones stuff, I'm talking the great stuff from the Alabama into the Garth years (basically 80ish thru late 90's). I feel this is a niche format totally lacking here in DFW. KSCS and The Wolf are too stuck on current material. There are a ton of us country fans out there that loved country before it started rockin' too much, and actually started incorporating rap into the song.....Geez... I was a country DJ during those years and had an immense amount of fun... some awesome tunes.... throw in a huge library of songs from that era, as well as some LIVE AND LOCAL talent... none of this voice track BS.... and ya' might have something.... hell, I'd love to have a crack at programming the music for it :cool:
 
Or how bout they ARE now HOT933 and they only need to pull a couple tenths more in Prime to make sister station KPLX #1 across the board and dethrone KISS. And Geeezusss why are CBS and Clear Channel sitting there while Cumulus eats about 35million in Country pie every year? What are Jack and NOW billing?

It's been a week since the flip to Hot. Seems like no one cares about the flip (I don't either) because it's just the same damn station with a different name. Not impressive and wish they would give up already. I'll give it my 2 cents.

Honestly, the "Hot" format in San Antonio (owned by iHeart) is not as bad as I thought it would be since their flip earlier in August. If I was in the mood for some throwbacks, "Hot 104.5" has some really good throwbacks as a Rhythmic station. Not to mention outstanding ratings. Then I look at "Hot 93.3" (not to be confused with what was the same name in Austin before KGSR took over) and it's just as painful to look at as if it was still "i93.3". I still think Cumulus should've tried the "Today's Rhythm and the Best Throwbacks" route instead of today's CHR since Kiss is still the dominant one and their ratings are 5x's that of 93.3's.

Yet, I still think Cumulus should have tried a rock format once again to compete with iHeart's Eagle and Edge.
