Relevant Radio Done on 1410 and 1660 in SWFL?

"We’re finding without the listeners getting behind us, it’s simply not paying for itself.” WOW! What a concept. This guy is a genious. (Tongue firmly planted in cheek).

Perhaps they should forget about AM radio and let EWTN broadcast to the masses.
Or should that be Broadcast the Masses.... ::)

They overbought radio stations a couple of years ago, and since then were fined several million for backing out of an auction. They also have/had eyes on a Chicago station that was many $$$.
Their lame announcement is basically "I'm gonna take my ball and go home". No one has come forth to pay their ridiculous asking price. I will be glad when they are gone.

Hopefully the new owners will bring a news/talk format that can give WINK-AM/WNOG-AM some competition and run some sports that WWCN-AM cannot run.

Which of course is what was on there before Relevant bought them!

Generally speaking, Florida conservative talk radio listeners don't really care that much about competition. WWBA has been "competing" with WFLA in Tampa for six years with little effect. WFTL is a non-factor against WIOD. WFLF has faced an uphill battle against WDBO, despite having Rush. Sports talkers -- most towns have too many of them for the ratings -- three in Tampa (one has listeners), two in Orlando. Relatively good ground conductivity gives WINK-AM an amazing signal for a Class C on 1240, even at night.

Miami's liberal talk station showed up in the Fort Myers-Naples book last fall. Maybe that's a format option. Where is Guy James these days?

1240 WINK has 'amazing' coverage?? Elaborate, please. It certainly is not the case in Naples!

Amazing for a Class C station, not compared to WIOD or WQAM or WDAE. The soil in SW Florida is slightly more conductive than in Orlando or the panhandle, thus WINK carries a lot farther than, say, WKIQ-1240 in Eustis. It's listenable (though not rock solid) as far north as Punta Gorda at night. So I imagine they provide city grade over most of Fort Myers and Cape Coral 24/7. Naples is 40 miles away, and they have a station down there on 1270 to relay the signal anyway.

Proximity of the transmitter and receiver to salt water makes a big difference. 1600 out of Key West, blasts into Siesta Key or Longboat as long as you are close to the beach. Get a halfmile from the beach and it's not there.
