Religious/political beliefs of talk programmers

"Oh so the guy advertises in the paper that you source about the political hit on him? I guess I got told."

No, the ads started only as of about 3 weeks ago. That article was from 2003 when Basham was fired.

"Basham may very well have been a victim of politics, I don't know, but I do question the validity of this report."

Well, what can I say? People here in Las Vegas know that "Las Vegas City Life" is is the major alternative news weekly.

But don't kid yourself: it has nothing to do with advancing a political, religious, or any other kind of agenda.

Tell me, JimWalsh. How deeply involved are you in church and the struggles church denominations are going through today, and can identify which ones of them are boot-strapped to certain political movements?

Those of us who are deeply involved may be hearing connections and "power sources" that are not coming to the attention of people who are simply focused on broadcasting alone. What an interesting trio when you look at Grover Norquist, Jack Abramoff and Ralph Reed. Take a look at who attended the Wednesday morning breakfasts. Gives a whole new meaning to "Follow the Leader".

What is the implication here?

That the black helicopters are circling and it's time to add another layer of tin-foil to the hat.

Isn't that the equivelent of Rush talking about liberal bias?

One of the problems our nation has today is that the "ethics" of talk radio, the style of talk radio is filtering down until it has become the way we want to talk to our neighbors. It has become the way we want to talk when we have a meeting of our homeowners association. It has become the way we want to talk when we go to a Sunday School class and try to discuss how life should be lived if you give your allegiance to The Deity. And the way we talk to each other in these on-line discussions.

When some one is taking the conversation somewhere you don't want to go, ridicule them. Call them feminatsies. Call him Dingy Harry. Accuse the speaker of seeing black helicopters behind the trees and clouds.

I raised the question. Who is Grover Norquist? What does he do? If he has regular Wednesday meetings, who attends them? Do the Wednesday meetings have any influence on what is discussed by the major talk radio personalities? Are there any political beliefs expressed at these meetings?

We can talk about it. Or, we can pretend we are talk radio and just see who can come up with the most creative insults.

You know what I find funny about this is when I worked for Capital Cities my boss was Jewish and his boss was Jewish, and it was the most fun I've ever had in radio other than Jacor and WFLA. We could do or say anything we wanted on the air as long as we didn't say the seven dirty words. Back in those days I wasn't liberal I was left-wing. I went to Cuba, and called Roe Conn from Havana. So what I went through was not the same as this article. Things didn't get bad at WLS until Disney took over and Mike Elder left for Boston. Then the station swung was right-wing and it was just plain boring. Glad I got out.

While I'm in a good mood...

BTW: Jay...I've been checkin' out the podcasts of your show...

Sounding damn fine, m'man.

Intellegent, topically well-rounded, actual discussions instead of urination matches...it's the kind of radio that made me want to do talk in the first place.

Keep it up, dude.
