Remember Curt Whitcomb?

I recently saw an obituary for Kim Bear who was born in Harrisburg and "was a daughter of the late Curtis K. Whitcomb". I assume that's the same Curt Whitcomb of WFEC...1960's era...fame. Does anyone know for sure?
WFEC was THE station in Harrisburg during that time and I still have fond memories of it after all these years.
I have a vague memory that Curt was involved in a really bizzare incident that, as far as I know, was never solved. He was apparently on his roof fixing something and was shot but survived and lived for several years until he died in the 80's.
Can anyone with a better memory than mine fill in the blanks?
 
Actually, Curt passed away maybe 2002 or so. The story I always heard, very second-hand, was that Curt was quite a ladies' man in his day. He was said to be fooling around with a woman who's jealous husband took a shot at him while he was on his roof fixing a TV antenna. I knew Curt late in his career, unable to get a radio job, and trying to carry on with his Mobile DJ business, struggling to get around on 2 canes as he was partially paralyzed. It was really sad, you had to feel totally sorry for the guy. Maybe one of the "radio historians" who frequent this site can fill in a few more details of the story.
 
I recall when that incident happened. I also recall that the shooter was never found. At the time, a fellow I knew who had worked at WFEC back in the day commented to me that he didn't think it was a random act and suspected that it may have had something to do with the scenario Ray Thomas mentioned. But that was only speculation. Probably no one living knows the real story.

I also grew up during the era of "Whifec Radio," and you're right, Stevie. The Good Guys ruled! It's unfortunate that so many of them are gone.
 
Speaking of WFEC, remember jocks Tony Montgomery and Lucky Pierre?
 
I worked with Curt at a state job in '79..I grew up in the area in the 60's, and as a kid listened to him and Buzz Long, John Barger, Lucky Pierre and all the good guys from that era..Went in the army in 67 and returned in 70..and the Big 14 was still sounding good..that was the year Curt was shot...anyways since i loved radio and we worked at the state together...and he also was doing saturday nights at WCTX--he had me do the newscasts for him once ...he did of course mention the shooting incident...but never a lot of details altough he didn't think it was an accident...great guy and lots of great stories on the early FEC days...
