Remember Jerry Fogel?

For those who do, you might have seen him today on CBS "Sunday Morning" during a feature on Marlo Thomas. There were a couple of short clips from her series "That Girl" and the scenes from the show included my old co-worker at WBBF.

Jerry was the morning man at WBBF in the early to mid 60s. He left the station to move to Hollywood to begin an acting career. Over the years, he appeared in several TV series and a few movies including Tora! Tora! Tora! that seems to be on cable almost weekly.

Incidentally, Larry Black who was my morning man at WAXC. has also appeared in some TV shows (Matlock, In The Heat of The Night) and some movies several years after leaving the radio business.

I remember him in that Eve Arden-Kaye Ballard sitcom "The Mothers In Law" on NBC late in the 60s, a couple years after he left Rochester--had a good two year run as the son-in-law, and it looked like he had a good future as a sitcom actor. He had talent and timing...

Read in the trades later on in the 90s that Fogel was in Kansas City doing a radio talk show...anyone know if he's still there, or still on the air?

BTW--heard that Larry Black was working with Pat Robertson and CBN after leaving radio--was that true?

Bob, Jerry's still in KC, but not on the air as far as I know. I sent him and email today re: the CBS feature and he had missed it. By the way, his son, Dave Fogel, is the morning man on True Oldies WLS-FM in Chicago.

Regarding Larry Black. I'm not sure about any direct involvement with CBN, but he was very close with Scott Ross who I believe did end up working at CBN in some capacity. Scott used to do a syndicated Christian radio show back in the 70s.

Larry's been living in Nashville for years. He's in business with his sons and has been producing reunion shows featuring old country greats - He has one running now on the RFD network called "Country's Family Reunion".

Last I spoke with him, he was also hosting a show on the RFD called "Larry's Country Diner" (Thursdays, 6 PM Eastern)

I remember listening to jerry Fogel when I was real young about 9 or 10. Then he left for hollywood and was replaced by jack Palvino!
