Hey, it's Tom Izzo AKA DR. IZZO. I used to be John DePetro's board-op/Walking the Floor guru. Yeah, i'm out of radio now unfortunately due to the financial state of things...being a board-op doesn't pay my fellow americans. It's too bad, because I was pretty good at what I did, and enjoyed doing it. Do you folks recall my Walking the Floor segment that I did on both Buddy and John's shows?...yeah, i'm that guy. What are the chances I get back into radio as an on-air talent? Well, with this market, who knows? I just wanted to say hello to all of the great listeners of the market, and try to re-connect with some good radio people. Thank you radio-info!

Thanks WC, I miss being there. I wish there were more opportunities for young guys like me in radio. Their just isn't an honest wage for upstarts like myself, I did it for 2 years, couldn't afford to keep doing it...loved it though, even when it was maximum stress...there's nothing like being above it all, controlling an entire radio station while all of your friends and family fight through the daily commute...almost makes it worth getting up at 4 AM.
 
I liked you very much Doc. I heard Wpro's P.D. was paying you only 7 or 8 dollars an hour, true? If so, thats very cheap. Your segment was worth more then 7 or 8 dollars an hour.
 
Lefty, I was not compensated at all for Walking the Floor. As to my salary...I won't mention specifics because I am above that sort of thing, but it wasn't much...you're just told that "hey, its radio"....

"Hey, I gotta make a living"
 
Boooooooo to you. You are meanspirited to a guy who did some good work and is proud of it. Beside genius, it's Jay-walking that you're trying to reference. Find something positive to say for once.

Yes, ignore that comment Tom. It was designed only to make you feel worse & not the slightest bit valid. You had enough self esteem to post originally so keep up that attitude. Some of us here will get your back if that garbage keeps up.
 
Tom you did a fine job.. Yeah I hear WPRO pays horrible to the middle people. 300,000 for Buddy! Maybe Buddy should have 'TOLD' management to grant you a Living Wage for Gods sake!
I hear WPRO has become nasty cheap the last couple of years. Too bad. :(
 
Dude, we never met, but 23 k. is CRAP. 30 k. would be almost crap too! Little Joe ( the jockey) rude nickname, and Tony, Dan's producer and about 20 other people at WPRO should stage a WALK OUT. What do they do, threaten those of you with the INTERN card? Man, what CHEAP SKATES! I love his board!

WPRO = CHEAP BASTARDS.

The bottom line is and always has been that there are others who will take the job for less money so there's no bargaining power unless your role has an effect on ad dollars and ratings. In Providence trying to get ahead is like applying for a job at Foxwoods right now. You can't get something that isn't there to get.
 
There's nothing new here. Board op is pretty much an entry level postion. Always has been. And it's never paid well. It is what it is. And if your lucky, someone will notice your talent and other opportunies will come your way if you can stick it out. Isn' that what happen with Matt Allen? Because of the responsibility it's easy to get fooled that your contributions in that postion are unique.

The business was always and will always be this way. The Hosts get the cake and the Board Ops get the crumbs. When you talk about Matty Allen getting ahead. He was lucky that he had Dan mentoring him and always talking well of him. He still mentions Matty on his program at least once daily. Many of the other hosts just say "Godd for me, the heck with you, as they help push you outta the door.
 
Tom, I'm sorry to hear that somethings in that building haven't changed because that appears to be ballpark what I started at 20 years ago when I was there...
