Remember the great old WFTL on 1400....

Re: Remember the great old WFTL on 1400....Housecalls

I remember Wftl on 1400 I used to listen to the Sunday shows every week. My favorite show was Housecalls with Scot Savitch, It was te best show for information about the house. I usd to call in every couple of weeks for the last 5 or 6 years it was on and could't beleive Scot always knew the answer that I needed. I sure miss Scot Savitch I go to HD alot to buy materials I need but they can not tell me how to do the repairs. Does anyone remember that show. I lived in Orlando but I heard it on the internet, What a loss and what was up with that Stan guy he was funny. That show had lots of info and was also entertaining, that song they used to sing about Abbey Carpet & Tile now that's entertainment. I was in North Carolina a few years ago and ran into him at a store in Lake Toxaway but called recently to find out some info and he had moved.
Does anyone know where Scot Savitch from Abbey Carpet & Tile or Country Floors & Interiors has moved to or how to get ahold of him.

Yes it was a great station. I worked there in the 70's doing news when Amaturo owned it, John Lupton did mornings, Mike Harvey was the PD and David Collin was the news director. We had a pretty kick butt news department back then. It was heavy on community invovlement, news, music and some great personalities.

Nice start to the website Mike. Some of the photos brought back memories. Lois Suger had married our news director David Collin and then I heard they divorced. John Stupak,Marti Tenant, Ray Smithers, Amaturo...I remember them all. Wow. I worked in the 1978 building off Oakland Park Boulevard. I was there when they flipped GLO to Studio 107. What a shock that must've been at 5pm to anyone sitting in a dentist's office. They kicked off the new format with the cover of the Beatles "Got To Get You Into My Life." Can remember who did that. By the way, Bob Baldrica Senior was our GM. He was probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. His son now owns his own agency.

Jim I left for WGBS just before the move to the new studios (not a good move for me).

Lois Sugar had a stroke a few years ago and is slowly fighting the good fight to get back to as normal a life as she can. The last time I heard Bob Baldrica Senior was in bad shape I don't know if he's still around. You're right, what a nice man!

I came back to WFTL for awhile in 1979 I think I saw you then. Mike Harvey hired me back. Doug Hoerth left with Mike Harvey for WWSW in Pittsburgh and has worked at various stations in the steel city ever since. I hear Doug just retired from radio up there.

I thought all stations were like WFTL was then....they weren't! By the way it was a kick to work with all you ex WFUN guys!

Mike,

My memory's not as good as it once was, but we must've been following each other around. I was at WGBS from 1979 to 1984 before leaving for WJNO. Charlie Cook was the PD, Dan DiLoreto was the GM. Bob Cain the News Director.

Hey Jim,

Funny how radio works huh? I had a great run on WFTL from 1974 to 1978 then Arnie Warren became PD at WGBS and hired me. I worked at WGBS a month before the very tight "Musicradio 7000 the new WGBS" came along. You know how loose WFTL was. I couldn't handle the new format. in 1978 WGBS went through 4 PD's and two GM's in one year. I got blown out toward the end of '78. I was lucky to find work at WQAM doing fill in for awhile. They had a full time opening but they wanted to hire Johnny Dolan from WEDR in hopes of getting some of the black audience to come over to WQAM. In 1979 I wound up at WGMA as production director, later K-102 and WRMF. Things didn't settle down till I worked for the Pearl family at WNGS Wings 92.1. That was a great little station, no money but nice people!

Mike
