Remember when 93.5 KDAY was called 93.5 The Beat

I don't why they made that move. That move led to mass syndication. What were they thinking? You merge two legendry urban radio stations.

Yes one of LA's worst monents. All syndicated programing. Didnt last too long thank god. That move was made when KRBV flipped to the Sound. They were trying to fill the void but It backfired. Then they flipped their sister station in Riverside to the Flo which caused alot of anger. That was the day I bought a ipod and uploaded my own music.

KKBT was nothing like that. That station was and always be # 1 for Hip Hop & R&B. THE BEAT played the hottest urban/hip hop hits. I miss the beat. We got KDAY back to what was promised in 2004 which was a classic hip hop format

Remember KDAY had a campaign Hip Hop Today & Back in Day. But by 2006 KDAY went current hip hop to fill the void that KKBT left when it switched from Mainstream Urban to Urban AC. KDAY was sounding like a train wreck a throwback wasn't even a guest there. SMH. In the late summer of 2008 KDAY became a station that featured syndicated radio shows from V-100. I was done listening to L.A. radio altogether. There was nowhere else to turn to. KPWR was fading into the background when It started playing electro pop and autotune R&B hits that barely make it to the Hot 100. The only I listened to was 102.3 KJLH for a few months until December 2008 when I got my iPod. I have alot of classic hop hop/R&B throwbacks on both my iPod & iPhone. On August 17, 2009 KDAY made a change for the better. Classic Hip Hop. Stuff that you don't hear anymore on Power 106 nor KJLH.

i remember when they were the beat they suck kday is a resurrection from the 1980's the first hip hop station in united states i am happy they are 93.5 kday olskool jams syndication doesnt work in los angeles people are not intersted in michael basin and steve harvey people in l.a want hear olskoo hip hop and classic house and freestyle i wish they would bring back 100.3 the beat to l.a dont change 93.5 kday to the beat it wont work.

They thought that they were the old beat. They even bought back the peace sign logo from the old beat and the no color lines slogan.

Sadly clear channel is the only company that can bring the beat back but it wont happen

1 It would hurt KIIS
2 It would not be Urban it would be Rythnmic leaning. Plus it would put hispanics first because they are 80% of the demo
3 The current Dj's wont work. Well maybe Renne Taylor and that Victor guy in the morning he used to be on either KYLD or KMEL in SF.

This new KDAY will also remain low rated due to its signal. Maybe not Mt. Wilson but what other areas of LA could KDAY and KJLH move their tower too to get decent coverage?

The syndication was wack! Steve Harvey, Wendy Williams, Michael Baisden, Monique... Yuck! Urban syndication is the worse! Have you heard Keith Sweat Hotel? IT sucks!!!

KDAY now has there own idenity. Classic Hip Hop. They maybe repetitive with the songs but their better than KPWR. Remember Sylk-E Fyne's hit song Romeo & Juliet. She was a Westcoast female rapper with one hit. Everybody slept on that joint when it was getting airplay on 92.3 The Beat & Power 106 in April 1998. She's now earning her redemption on KDAY like the rest these 90's hits.

Yep KDAY does remind me of the old KKBT 92.3 back in 90's I love their remixes on the weekends and I loved their reggae show on sunday nights. The good old days. When I moved to Kansas City in 97 I longed the days I would hear KKBT again. Only choice we had back home was KPRS. When I returned home in 2006 could not believe my ears when KKBT moved to a Urban AC format. KDAY was okay but the signal sucks in the valley and in Pasadena near foothill.

Here's the KKBT Timeline

1.1989 92.3 The Beat was born

2. By 1991 92.3 The Beat begins playing Hip Hop & R&B after the original KDAY goes off the air.

3. On June 30, 2000 92.3 The Beat moves to 100.3 becoming 100.3 The Beat adopting the slogan Harvey Hip Hop & R&B.

4. 2005 The Beat's ratings hit an all time low in the wake of Steve Harvey's departure and KDAY's came back in 2004.
5. 2006-2008 KKBT goes Adult R&B and turns into V-100 SMH

Whatever happened to Theo Mizuhara remember when he was on the original KKBT at 92.3 from 1994-1999 doing afternoons then from 2001-2003 he was on KHHT and lastly KDAY from 2006-2008. I also want to know happended to Julio G, Baka Boyz and the Goodfellas.

Theo left KDAY to focus on his syndicated show Theo After Hours through Westwood One Network. I doubt its still on the air since he has no affilates. He really killed KDAY by flipping it to the BEAT.

I remeber the day when KRBV had his last brodacast. Theo and Monique were on the station with Cliff and Diana that morning promoting the new shows. I knew Monique was getting a show but Keith Sweat and Michael Baidsen ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I like Micheal Baiden music on the show but it was'nt even live it was taped delayed. We had no idea Theo was gonna jack up both KDAY and the Beat's legacy.

The Baka Boyz are still doing their syndicated weekend show Hip Hop Master Mix. Its been on almost 10 years. You can hear it Friday nights on Q104.7 in the IE and Oxnard. They use to be on the air in San Deiago at XHMORE Blazin 98.9 years ago.

The Goodfellas left a few months before KDAY flipped to classic hip hop. Miguel from Power 106 took over their slot for a bit but then Miguel left when they dropped the format.

Excuse me if i am wrong but i would say back in the day should be at the bare minimum 10 years well i heard t-i bartender on there and that is not very old only 4 years and i heard stuff that came out in 2005 does not make sense. Now with that said i enjoy the station but they need to be careful when they say back in the day. Contrary to them bartender does not qualify.

Actually, CBS is another company that could do a viable urban-leaning rhythmics. The majority of their urbans are rhythmic leaning (WPGC, WZMX, WJHM, even WVEE/Atlanta is now rhythmic leaning). CBS built urban-leaning rhythmics, WZMX & WMBX, from the ground up in the past 8 years and both are highly successful crossover stations in their markets. As a matter of fact, CBS created an urban-leaning rhythmic in Phoenix back in 2009. They are all local and some of the best sounding rhythmic stations I've listened to in a long time. WZMX & WMBX both gives old school R&B and hip-hop some major play on weekends and even airs slows jams during the late night on weekdays. However, I believe CBS is satisfied with their current formats in the LA market.

Clear Channel could have blown up KHHT and buy back the KKBT calls, "the Beat" brand, and "churban" format back to 92.3 but I agree they like what's going on with the KIIS/KHHT duo. Younger personalities with a handful of market vets would help establish such station.

The Beat should come back with a back in the day urban format like KDAY but that would make KDAY go back to playing that ringtone hip hop
again SMH

It would make since to flip it back to the Beat. KDAY would probally not be around for long. More than likey Urban Oldies that leans towards hispanics would be its next format if KHHT did flip back to Urban but it wont happen.

Or maybe it would work but alot of reformatting would take place

KIIS would have to go to a more mainstream CHR format and cut down on the Rythnmic fare but it would be suicide. That's like rehiring Rick Dee's again.

But as of now between KAMP KIIS KQIE/KCAQ KXOL KGGI KPWR and KDAY there is plenty of Hip Hop to go around could be worse. Imagine our stations were like San Dieago. Z90 and Channel 93.3 are the only choices.

What makes you think going mainstream will be "suicide"?

KIIS is already somewhat mainstream. They're playing songs from Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, not to mention they have the new Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me". Even by playing those songs, KIIS still gets great ratings.
