KDAY has came a long way. It's the new 92.3 The Beat & Power 106 from back in the day. I love the 90's and early 2000's Hip Hop & R&B. Whenever I listen to KDAY I sit back and think about the good ol' days.
[/quoteI like KDAY, but I would tlike to hear some live jocks on occasion. It doesn't seem to be in touch with the market.

No jocks makes it easier to run the station. There really is no need for any jocks at the moment even though its been a year since the format flip. They actually had jocks on one night but they sucked. All they were talking about was some concert tickets. They are in touch witht the market. The music and the westcoast sound despite the signal. KDEY in Riverside is doing very good.

No station could touch the Beat back in its heyday.

Diana Steele & the Wheels of Steele at lunchtime,

Theo and those bomb drops Dj Quik hooked him up with,

Julio G with 9 oclock bomb & Wesside Radio,

The Wake up Show with Sway & Tech, Those crazy freestyles often times unedited lol.

Nightbeat with Kevin Slow Jammin James or Lisa Cannon or Kevin Nash,

Could go on and on about this subject.

But at least we got Kday music wise.

I Miss The Night Beat. Back when R&B was in it's hey day. Kevin Nash play all the nice slow grooves. Power 106 was trying to sound like KKBT playing Hip Hop & R&B also. I remember when people used to argue about The Beat & Power 106 over who claimed the ownership over Hip Hop & R&B. The Beat was considered Urban and Power 106 was Top 40/Rhythmic until 1997 when it went urban contemporary eventhough they started playing more Hip Hop & R&B in 1992.

Really though. KDAY sounds so much better with the classic hip hop sound.

Long time lurker, you guys made me sign up with these memories.

Who remembers the 7 O'Clock Menu Mix with DJ Melo-D?, to this day that is the best Mixshow in the history of radio to me.

does anyone have any old airchecks from 92.3 The Beat

I have some from the early 90's. Shortly after the changed to urban, with their original staff...All on cassette though.

I have one from 2001 but it was on 100.3 when they debut Michael Jackson's You Rock My World. It's on tape too I gotta look for it

any chance you guys could up some of those? no rush

it would be sweet to hear them!

Well the Urban AC sound wasnt all that bad what f###### them over was picking up Tom Joyner. Michael Badisen was okay becasue when it was on KKBT it was live from 12-4 when KDAY aired it it was tape delayed. I had tape players that sound better than that. When they were Urban AC yes ratings took a all time low but still had a full power signal and the ratings were higher than KJLH and KDAY. Plus a more focused playlist. I remeber Shirley Hays when she took over as PD right when the station was sold dropped the playlist and played whatever they wanted. Sad that its not on their air anymore but its the business.
Moving to 100.3 is what screwed them over.
