Remember when KRTH wasn't a non-stop advertisement for the state of Hawaii?

Any given moment that you tune in to K-Earth 101.1, if it's not a regular commercial or actual music then it's a DJ basically doing a commercial for Hawaii. When they're not giving away "free trips" to Hawaii, they're entering callers into a future drawing to win a trip to Hawaii. And if they're not doing THAT, they're reminding you to listen for the "K-Earth jet" to "fly by" so you can call in and maybe be entered into a drawing to win a trip to Hawaii. I swear, they've been doing this shilling for Hawaii for at least two freaking years!! When will the madness end?!?

How can these giveaways possibly be any good if they give away so many?? It's gotta be a ripoff. This campaign has been going on way too long. Just go back to being a regular station, for God's sake! I want them to play more music for one thing, and maybe also they could provide more commentary on the music they play, like real DJs? Oh sure, once in a blue moon you'll hear insightful commentary from a DJ, but 99% of the time all they have to talk about is Hawaii! No wonder I tune in to 100.3 The Sound more than any other station. Their playlist isn't much better than all the other "classic rock" stations, but at least their DJs sometimes have interesting commentary, and their station doesn't sound like a paid infomercial.

In the late 70's & early 80's they would give a trip every day.

And from a musical and presentation perspective, they were at their best. The station used to be genuinely fun, now it sounds forced.

Even worse than the Hawaii ads are the Ed Asner "interview?commercial". It became so tedious and repetitive that we changed the station in our office.

Yeah, I hate those fake interview spots too. Even worse than Asner's are the ones pimping Vegas timeshares. Awful stuff, almost as bad as the oil/gas futures phone interview spots that run on talkradio.

I miss the "old" KRTH too, but you have to admit it's improved dramatically since Jhani took over. At least now there's someone paying attention to programming and formatics.
