Remember When...

The PRO-FM Personalities answered phone calls from their listeners? Many years ago, I know.
Of course, the morning show crew still answers, but after that forget it. I wonder why.

David Simpson used to stay on the phone with me for 20 minutes at a time. I'm still clueless as to why. But he struck me as a guy who genuinely loved interacting with his listeners. He would often tell me to hold on. Then he would get on the air to do his thing and then come back to continue the conversation with me. The staff at WNBC used to be great to me as well. Joey Reynolds in the afternoon and EJ Crummy who did overnights were Super. Another guy who did weekends named Wild Bill Grunfest was really cool too. Maybe people in radio back then were nicer. I don't know. I haven't called a radio station in a long long time.

We're living in an "on demand" world. A lot of the reasons people would call radio stations for don't exist as much (requests). You can hear what you want when you want elsewhere. As far as the thrill of talking to the DJ, that ship sailed long ago. The audience isn't as impressed because no one on the air makes much of an impression after morning drive. You want to interact? Get them to add you as FB friends. You still might not interact but you can watch them interact with those they really want to talk with.

Those days are waaaay long gone. We remember the good and gag over the rest. And why would anyone want to "friend" them on Facebook? It's a huge data mining operation anymore.
