Remember when??

These forums used to be full of postings on a daily basis? That a radio DJ said something you repeated over and over because it made you laugh?? When stations USED to have LIVE/local DJs all day and night long? When radio management actually gave a damn about the local listeners? When the Beaumont 990AM actually played music and not some screeching sound like it has for the last 4 days? (and yes, that last one has been happening for the last 4 days...the 97.1 translator has not been heard on the air though E-Stream has filed a license to cover....wanna bet it hasn't been built?? )

...the Texas board was filled with Lubbock this and Lubbock that, thanks to the great Eggsovereasy?

...we were all griping about how "The Point" needed to be put out of its misery?

...jd was still posting?

...ContinousWave was still CW?

...jras20 was still...well, 20?

...Sam Buca was still wreaking havoc around here?

...the iron fist was running the show here?

...Beaumont was exciting to hear on Houston's dial?

...radiodiscussions was radio-info, and was just that...info?

...we used to stay on topic longer than two or three posts in?

...this was the only board available for us radio geek types?

...Chuck Tiller used to tell us the tremendous stories about yesteryear?

...Mike O's reports were the best part of the DX boards?

...we had better things to post than this, lol. :D

Devil, I am pleased to see you caught my old ID on here (CW)...was not sure if I could get back on under it so went with the full name of Continuous Wave...for those who knew that, I'll buy a beer when we meet!...Alas, iirc MikeO went to the great ether in the sky and we miss him.....

When I left Beaumont in the early 80s, it was still alive and kicking....alas, coming back 20 yrs later, I had a very bad feeling about it...now 30 yrs since I moved to the sleepy little area of Conroe, things have reversed...Conroe and its area is growing (The Woodlands is larger than Beaumont in population) and no signs of it dying...while Beaumont, once an important city in the Lone Star State withers and dies in the vine...the local economy is down except for one thing, OIL...which is what the area was founded on...and will die because of it...I have seen many shops close their doors in the last 5 years due to the downturn in the economy and radio has done nothing to help...indeed, the legacy stations started down the path of doom before the area did back in the 80s...CW still posts....and still has his finger in the radio pie...only problem is there are too many of the same blackbirds in the pie....all from only two companies.....the others have been eaten or turned "Christian" in their nature.....when churches bloom and the rest of the area does not, there is a BIG problem......sad...sad...I worked for some of the best engineers in the area....and they have either passed on or left after retirement...and who can blame them? The current crop have to do 5x the work the legends like Roland Ritcher (KOLE) or Harold Bartlett (KFDM/KLVI) did.......and at less pay!!!!! The BPO area of Texas has had enormous opportunity to be a leader....but instead stuck with thick gooey oil and its by products...so it is last in technology.....and now highest in unemployment...ATT sends crews from Houston who stay at the MCM instead of hiring local techs...because its more cost effective....really says a lot of the area....when growing up, I thought this area would be a mecca of technology and low cost living....neither which has come true (housing here is more than say Conroe...especially thanks to taxes and Fraud park!!!)....Pt Arthur has for all reality lost all of its radio and TV stations....Beaumont has lost a few as well to Houston...what does that tell you?? sad days for once was the "Golden" Triangle...now the arm pit of SE TX.....

I look forward to the cold one, CW! Make mine a Corona, and not one of the ones bottled in San Antonio, I'll take a real one from Mexico. B)

Yes, the King of DX left us to go spin the heavenly dials where there is no interference, and no matter where you point your antenna, a crystal clear signal is at every dial position. I had many a conversation with Mike over the years, and as you know I'm sure, there aren't many on here (or anywhere for that matter) that could equal or eclipse his love of the medium. We lost a great person with his passing, and radio-info/discussions hasn't been the same since he left us.

God bless you, Mike! You will always have a place in the purple one's heart, my brother!

I don't want to be THAT guy from Houston, dumping on our little brother to the east, so I'll just say this. I wish the Triangle could recapture some of its gold, sometime in my lifetime. Quite sad to see what B/PA has become over the past couple of decades. As mentioned, it was once a vibrant and prosperous community. It would be great to see some of the wealth and rebuilding that's currently taking hold in Harris County, expand into Jefferson and Chambers. It's like someone forgot about anything east of Pasadena existing around here. New development going up all over the county....except for the east side.

I'm glad to know you're still around to give the CW touch to the topics posted around here. All of these years I've been a participant, you have always been one of my favorite reads. The main reason for that is because you pull no punches and tell it like it is. (Cosell's voice just rang in my ears)

While our numbers have certainly diminished around here, the passion of those of us left certainly hasn't. Wish the same held true for many of the "big boys" playing the radio game in both of our markets, CW. ;)

Yep, I recall the day KHYS went to CC Devers somewhere around October '88 as the first Houstonization from BPT, now KSAP goes it alone in the "Energy City"............

Yep I remember. I think one thing that really killed this site was when they shut down.

KYKM actually has a few local dj's during the day. It's interesting to listen. Of course I think most of Austin stations are all voice tracked now except for morning shows.
