REMEMBERING 'HIT RADIO' IN BOSTON, WHTT 103.3

I'm drawing a blank trying to remember some of the on-the-air people who handled shifts at WHTT in the early-mid 80s. I can't think of one...yikes! Help me out! ???

How about Johnny Dark, Bob Brown, Lee Gillette, Bruce Kelly, Charlie Quinn and Doug Elling for starters?

Now I remember about 3 of the names you mentioned. I thought of another--Cathy Dee of WATD, Marshfield worked a part-time shift there for a short while too.

Tony "Wild Child Hamilton worked nights. He even managed to do a 30-day stint in rehab(for coke) during very his brief stay in town.

I don't remember any of the DJ's but I absolutely loved that station! Too bad it wasn't around longer than it was.

YES! I remember WHTT! They were the ones who played "Rock Me Adameus" by Falco and the best hits of the 80s! I really enjoyed it! ::)

Wasn't there a DJ named Alex Stone? What jingle package did they use too? I don't know why they didn't use JAM Creative's HitRadio package like other CBS "Hitradio" stations used in the 80s like WCAU FM Philly, KKHR LA and KHTR St. Louis.

Doug Elling might have been the only jock who segued from the former WEEI-FM format to the WHTT format.

Hamilton replaced Alex Stone.

In airchecks I have, they used several different packages. One from 1984 was "Airpower" from TM Productions, originally for WBBM-FM Chicago. I seem to recall hearing a couple cuts from either JAM's Hitradio or Hitradio 2 in an aircheck somewhere, I'll have to dig around. There was also an unknown package used in October of 1985 where the TOH jingle says "WHTT, The Sound of Boston."

You can hear the Airpower TOH on tophour.com here, with their current program director, under a different name talking it up: http://www.tophour.com/audio/Boston MA/fm1033_1984-09_whtt_jlehmann.mp3

Here's the unknown one from 1985: http://www.tophour.com/audio/Boston MA/fm1033_1985-10_whtt_smcvie.mp3

WHTT was my first Boston gig. I did weekends and swing from January-September, 1985. I was a sophomore/junior at Brandeis at the time. Believe me, it beat working in the student center.

We went through a ton of people over those nine months. From memory:

Mornings: Bruce Kelly
Middays: Johnny Dark
Afternoons: Mark Sebastian
Evenings: Alex Stone, Tony "Wild Child" Hamilton
Late Nights: Doug Alling
Overnights: Dick Gunton
News: Gordon Hill, Cathy Doran

Part-time/production: Geoff St. Jon, Jay Dowd, Andy Hartmann, Nance Grimes, Patti Harrison, Jeff Hooker (aka Charlie Quinn, the PD), Bob Brown, Chris Knight, Dave Stewart, Paul Googenheimer

When I started, they were using the Hitradio jingles most associated with the station (the package that had the top of hour that features Jay Beau in the exhibit.) We used a completely new package starting in April or May, then used only a few shotguns in the summer, then switched to another new package that was very short-lived, followed (after I left) by the adoption of the Power 103 slogan and imaging they used until the station's demise in 1986.

No, Jay/John Dowd sounds just like "'Big Voice Guy' Jim O'Brien", P=)

Nope, I'm almost positive that Jay/John Dowd is JayBeau Jones.

Yup, they are one and the same,

Rod West finally saw daylight as he moved to middays, with Brad Pierce taking over afternoons and “Young” Johnny Dowd (aka Jay Beau Jones) replacing West on overnights.
(BTW, this is an EXCELLENT thread on the histories of both the former "JB-105"——my all time favorite station, from the Fall '79 through '81——and "PRO-FM")

My point is he sounds (or at least did...I haven't heard him since his "J(ohn) Dowd" daze) just like Jim O'Brien, though they don't look alike! P=)
