Remembering WCLU and the Defector!

Someone wanted to know who the "defector" was...the guy who defected to Russia in the 80's. His name was Ted Branch and was from Erie, Pa. He worked only a short time at WCLU and was described by the Russian propaganda machine as a "media expert"! Far from it!

Remembering WCLU...

Irv Schwartz and his constant battles with Liberty Cherry.
Irv Schwartz and his bouncing pay checks.
The day a newly hired PD (Ron Farris) got into an argument with Irv and walked out but not before calling him a name offensive to Jewish men.
The grandiose ideas of salesman Tom Kennedy.

Names from the past: Rhoda Schwartz (Galen), Doc Watson, Jerry Dale, Jim Douglas, John Kline, Tom Golliher, Tina Beach, Jack Reno, Tom Leslie.

How about the day Irv went to a guy's house to find out why he didn't show up for work and found him at the table, drunk out of his mind with spaghetti in his hair?

How about the guy who walked out after his airshift and deposited a load of his "solid waste" in front of Irv's office door?

Remember the Kash Amburgey commercials?

Remember "261-8585" ????

Big Clu Country with the singing jingle Two Six One Eighty Five Eighty Five. I worked on air for Irv in 1972 and was fired becuase his junk cart machine didn't start when I fired it by remote control. I slammed it with my fist (a daily event) as I had countless times. Only thing was that this time, PD Roy Wakely & Irv were in the production room & witnessed me "destroying the equipment". 10AM came around, end of my shift & end of my $2/hr morning drive gig on (cue the jingle singers please) 1320 WCLU Covington Kentucky! Didn't seem to stunt my career to badly...

The first place I ever heard Dan Allen, Janeen Coyle and Suzy Gabbard on Cincinnati radio was WCLU. Shad O'Shea worked there briefly in 1966, and Bucks Braun, Bob's nephew was there in 1967 and was then known as Jack Braun. Does anyone remember a DJ who was there in 1980 or 1981 named Jason W Dackett?

...Courtesy of "Kash’s big bargain-barn in South Lebanon, O-hia –where ‘ya always save cash with Kash". Wasn’t ole Kash the "cash-cow"” for early WXIX-TV? Who could miss him on all those channel-19 b&w movies from the 50s, Saturday afternoon westerns, and [his two favorites] – "Roller Derby" and "Scream-In". Imagine this segue of events: Kash selling lawn tractors – next the Cool Ghoul dancing to Bobby Boris Pickett – then back to Godzilla flaming Frisco [OMG – double-entendre even!] :D
