Remembering WRNO 99.5

God, it's been only, what...2 years since the original Rock Of New Orleans became another card in the “aint dere no more” file? How time flies...

Having signed off with The Doors’ “The End,” WRNO-FM gave way for all-Talk radio format as the “The New 99.5FM.com”. And it has changed format once again, and not for the better, either: "Rush Radio" (poor Andre Trevigne!)!

During its heyday, the Joseph M. Costello III-created station helped make household names of such favorites as Jim White, DJ-turned-actor John Larroquette, Soxless Scott Seagraves, J. Douglas, Tom Owens, "Weerd" Wayne Watkins, writer-producer Vance DeGeneres, Terry Knight, Johnny Tyler, and Joe's own kid brother, Michael In The Morning/Mike @ Night. We listeners reveled in tuning in to such faves on The Rock as The Out-Of-Control Morning Show, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame, The ’60s At 6:00 and The ’70s At 7:00.

And then--oh, the lack of humanity!--"Z-Rock"! Another example of fixing something which ain't broken, folks.

How they come and go so quick. WRNO, you are and continue to be bitterly missed. To absent friends… :'(

IMO, there is not one intelligent hour of WRNO in the entire day. I'd love to see it come back as it was. Remember the WRNO rock albums? I have one. I got this off the net - I can't remember who is on my album except for Hagen. I loved that song "I wanna be your lover."

SCTS-8707...v/a: WRNO 20th Anniversary Rock Album LP (19??), w/ Escape, Exit 209, Hagen, The Rebels, Killer Elite, Zebra, Razor White, The Murmurs, Rocktress, Topcats, Volon

Not even my commercials?

I thought you loved me!

I'm sorry Don, I have not listened long enough to hear one of your commercials. I still love you. :-* I should not have said that because I don't listen to daytime radio so, I could be wrong about nothing good on WRNO.

The WRNO Rock album you referred to was from 1983, it had just come out when I started there...
'da Rock went to Z Rock when were eating their lunch over at 'CKW...

Great memories, the tubing races, kite festivals, the get nekked Hot Legs contests at McAllister's Wednesday nights...

Sorry to hear Dino's arisen Rock Box (old Key West) is already out of business due to fire from attached Latino Bar...damn shame.

I still have all of My RNO satin jackets and thanks for the love, miss the outta control days.
