remote break lengths~how long should they go on?

The remote bed's :90 & the break's supposed to be :60 & it's a huge paying client who usually always gets the mic handed to them & they go on & on with the same schpeel nearly every break for sometimes over 2 minutes, rambling on even after the bed has run out. So long that the jock doing the remote can't even come back & wrap up the break. Do you:1. Cut them off when the bed runs out? 2.Fade the bed out from under them at :60 to "remind" them their time's up? 3.Let them go on forever because they're spending mega bucks on advertising? 4.Not give the mic to the client? I was always told listeners start losing interest after :30, which I've noticed some Cleveland stations breaks are, not too short, not too long. Also, if your phone or Marti signal's bad on one break do you let them go on extra long the next break for "make up time"? 8)

Don't you have any policy in place up there with remote guidelines anymore??? To go on for that long is just stupid, the client doesn't realize the tune out factor and he's just feeding his own ego.

We stick to 1:00, if you go over a few seconds, not so harsh. The mic should never leave the talent's hands, you're just asking for trouble, and lose control of the remote break.

As for bad shots, get it fixed before the next break (obviously) but give them a makegood....extend the remote into the next hour filling a spot in first break in that hour. That's how we roll.....

At the stations where I worked(both in Parkersburg and Elyria) we had strict guidelines pertaining to remotes.

Breaks at all 3 stations were 2 minutes. And, the client was advised to keep his schpeel short and sweet.
