Why in Gods name do stations send out people to remotes with a cell phone and maybe a street team , sounds terrible, usually recorded into a 360 then played back. Not very spontaineous, no buzz, no excitement, no mic flag, not good. And they wonder why people don't give a hoot about radio events any more.

Remotes stopped being events years ago. IMHO they are a holdover from the days when radio was exciting but they've changed & have become a rip-off. That plus the fact that there really are a limited number of personalities really well know enough to even be a draw. If the jock talks about the event enough on the air that may bring some people in but too much talk is a tune-out for those with no intentions of going. No excitement in the studio=no excitement outside either.

I see so much complaining about things now and how "they used to be". Well folks, if you don't like the way things are go and buy your own radio station.

15 years ago the Internet aka World Wide Web was not used as it is today. Advertisers relied more on TV and Radio to get their messages out. Now, advertisers can target their audiences better via the internet and thus the demand for radio advertising goes down, which trickles down to needing less talent, less events, and less pay.

So next time you complain about GM's, PD's, Big Corporate Owner's, etc. think about where the money comes from and what you would do if you were in it to turn a profit.

Gee, I remember when the newspaper used to........

The worst type of "remote broadcasts" are when a jock records their "appearance" or "update" in the studio prior to the remote. PRO-FM has used this tactic. It cheapens the overall quality of the station.

Unfortunately, we on this board are not a good sample of the general population. The changes that have reduced the quality of local radio (and of radio nationwide) are hardly noticed by those who are not industry enthusiasts, as we are. When such changes are noticed, the stations suffer. However, that is few and far between.
