Remote Broadcasts

What makes a remote broadcast a worthwhile event? Is it the personalities? Is it the station? Is it the swag?
What stations still do remotes, with radio equiptment vs. cell phone cuts? Which stations do it "right" in the Boston area? Please weigh in with your opinions about bringing the "magic" of radio on the road.

The WZLX ones from the parking lot of the Comcast Center are usually sound pretty good.

There is a difference between a remote, and a glorified commercial where someone dials in on a cell phone from Fred's used car lot.

Yeah... a good ole Marti RPU! Fun 107 down here in New Bedford (Fairhaven) still used theirs from time to time. It's in the 450 MHz range. You can tell when they are using it versus a lame cell phone.

Didn't 'BZ have some kind of mobile studio in a van of some kind? I remeber they used to send Brudnoy out on New Years Eve somewhere --Copley?-- and a crowd started rocking the thing pretty good one time.
