Remote Starts

> How do these work?

The principle is usually a contact closure in the console switch, which activates a logic circuit in the CD player, which applies power to the drive motor and turns the electronics on.

> Does the CD Player, or console have to have something special.

It depends. A commercial CD player usually has the remote contacts run to a pin plug on the unit, usually with controls for all of the other machine functions.

A consumer CD player usually has to have the button contacts paralleled to the remote start switch before it will work. Doing this is definitely not for amateurs. I have seen CD players ruined beyond use from someone doing this incorrectly.

Shielded cable pairs are best, especially in a high-RF environment.

Hope that helps...

So in other words, it would be dumb for me to even try this. Since I am not an engineer. DARN!!!!

If you took our advice for studio equipment from previous threads, it's a simple matter of connecting a wire since you already have a board and professional CD deck with remote start.
______________

I don't have anything yet. I am first doing a bunch of research.

Consider this...

This has to be said....pay a few bucks for a contract engineer to come in and lay something out for you. Money well spent and peace of mind is priceless.

Yeah, I have been thinking about it, just our budget is so low, i'm trying to cut costs as much as possible.
Edited by ZelenRecords on 01/23/06 05:28 PM.

If you have a way to get her here from Beligium, I may be able to work something out. LOL I wish I was still involved in the music industry..that I did have the power to do that. :)

Re: Consider this...

That's it SamBuca (if that's your real name), I am reporting you to Lance, I am sick and tired of being undercut by! LOL

Seriously though Zelen, you may have a minimum of budget but getting an engineer to "scope" things out before hand could save you plenty down the road!

If you heard this woman's voice and saw her, you'd be in love too.

I scoped things out last night. Took me 20 minutes to realize the noise I was seeing was because there was a 5kw transmission line 3 inches from where the probe was and I neglected to connect the grounding clip. Oops.
______________
