Renda Tulsa

M

MrMaestro

Guest
15 year GM Pat Bryson has been let go. New GM takes office Monday. Owner Tony Renda has lost his OKC GM(quite), 2 sales managers(quit) and now fired Tulsa GM in ONE week. He's lost his mind.

Tony Renda has no mind, at least not for radio. Anyone who would blow over half a million dollars tearing up channel four's front yard for a new building and end up keeping the one he's already in, shows what kind of real businessman Renda is.

He's run off all the talent that made his okc operation a cash cow and now is busting chops in tulsa. And this is a guy who blows his stack over whether an employee is making 10 versus 9 dollars an hour.

Go get em JC.

Sorry to hear about Pat Bryson.

Pat was helpful to my wife early in my wife's radio sales career.

I know of Renda's reputation from others who worked for him in Florida, so maybe this will turn out to be a blessing for Pat Bryson. I am sure she will land on her feet. Best wishes to her.

You'd think he'd stick to just screwing up OKC...... One disaster at a time. Why fire Bryson now? Hell, was 16 years ok, then all of a sudden she wasn't good enough? I can't figure out the logic on this one.

Here's what I think must be happening. Things must be getting a bit unconfortable for Tony with his creditors/bank. He's taking some pretty bold steps to "correct" the "problem" that are mighty risky, in my book. In his mind, he's "fixing" the problems. However, as most of us know, too many changes, even if they are positive changes, all at the same time spells disaster. Taking into account many of the people that have left/been eliminated from his company lately were good, seasoned, professionals, I'd say it's unlikely the changes are even positive, really. If I were his bankers I'd be loosing a LOT of sleep over his antics.

And yes... JC is going to give TR one hell of a ride downhill. Letting JC go might have been the stupidest thing TR has EVER done. (and that my friends is REALLY saying something)

One thing about all this is that after TR gets though flushing his company down the pooper, he might have another opertunity to make some bucks. He could get with a publisher and write a book called, "How to Turn Your Radio Company Into a Tax Write-Off Within a Year.. 10 Easy Steps!" It could be required reading for others that don't want to go the way of that dodo bird.<P ID="signature">______________

You know something? It's possible that maybe he is slashing his payroll to save money, and pay short-term bills that are coming due (or creditors that are pounding on his door), who knows? Sometimes when a business owner feels a sense of desperation---be it a restaurant owner or a radio station(s) owner---that owner will start cutting costs wherever he can, and he'll do it quickly!! Usually the first thing to go are raises and/or company perks. Then expenses for various items and such that each station is used to having at its disposal are slashed. You know, like staples for the stapler. Coffee filters for the coffee machine, etc. And then.......payroll itself gets slashed! Those who make the biggest bucks tend to go first.---Not always, but usually.

Now I'm not saying that I know for sure what he's doing--or that I agree with what he is doing---but I'm just speculating.

Me neither. Pat Bryson was the GM who oversaw KBEZ's transition from elevator music to what it is now. Granted, the GM doesn't normally do a whole lot of programming, but that still doesn't make such a transition an easy feat. After all, you have to help get the sales staff on the same page as the programming staff and, even with elevator music declining, getting some advertisers to remain on board had to have been difficult.

Gotta agree with you here, too. Taking KRXO out of Couch's hands and firing him after it didn't work very well might be the stupidest thing Renda has ever done.

Re: Renda OKC

Where do you think Pat will go?
Do you think she will want to stay in the Tulsa market?
Maybe she will pay Tony back by crossing the street??
She knows the skeletons in that closet and can make his life miserable.
My guess is that a few key staff members will also jump ship soon.
Any bets?

WOW...Tulsa radio is finally getting interesting again.

Good luck Pat.

CC, just for the heck of it, I think I'm going to beat hello4 and The Batman to the punch and ask you this one question......
I have a funny feeling that you haven't had to type too many formal letters in your life, am I right about that?

Please tell me you haven't!

I think he is from Dallas.

He has his hands full dealing with Tony Renda. I hope he is getting paid a lot of money to take that job. I think he was up for a job in IRAQ but he wanted something more dangerous.

Re: Renda OKC

The wonderful Jan Dean has joined Clear Channel in sales/NTR, I believe.

Sorry to see Pat go. She was one of the best GMs I ever worked for. Tough, but fair, compassionate and ethical; totally underserving of the reputation she got. Why is it strength, decisiveness and the ability to make tough decisiona are seen as positive qualities in men and negative (bitch) traits in women?

I think Tony Renda gets a bad rap, too. I had less interference and more support from ownership and management while working for Renda than anywhere else in my career. I regretted leaving Renda within a month of doing so. The secret to having that sort of relationship with Tony and Pat is simple ..... win.

Just about everyone I've heard badmouthing either or both of them wasn't capable of that, or was just repeating gossip they'd heard from others.

Good luck Pat (not that she'll need it).

Winners win
