Reno Format Flip No More Cub Country

Looks like They blew up cub country to simulcast 1450 AM, there is a significant delay also different commericals also the top of the hour ID still says KUUB "ESPN RADIO"

The interesting thing is KJZS is no longer smooth Jazz, it is now 92.1 The Wolf nevada's new country.

Kinda interesting. KUUB is owned by Lotus and KJZS is owned by Wilks. Did they get together or did Wilks have this planned all along and KUUB decided forget country?

Got to take in mind the signal also. 945 just couldn't compete even with a translator in Carson. 921 is even a WEAKER signal. KBUL has nothing to worry about.

but why ESPN radio??? I mean sports on FM??? I don't think that was a good idea.

Lotus could compete with Citadel and Americom by a good top 40 leaning to dance and call it HOT or something else. then again with 96.5 sounding more like KWNZ and KWYL seems like too much.

or better yet how about soul like Kiss FM in SF or V 101 in sac??

What the Wolf needs to do is get out there quickly, hire at least cub country's morning show (to get those listeners back) and be present at the local country scenes like Buckin Wild and that place in Lemmon Valley.

The 102.5 translator is not be used by Wilkes much longer,,,,,,,,,the owner has decided to go another direction with it.

I was looking on radio-locator.com and could not find the 102.5 translator in Carson City BUT I did do a Google Search and BAM it showed a map and said KWNZ Carson City NV

could this be true??

I tried it again (cause of googles new live search ad could not find it again.)

That 102.5 Translator has been the subject of great controversy at the FCC in Washington. Its outside of 92.1's 60 dBu, 1 mv/m coverage area which the FCC generally frowns upon depending on the situation.

Ooooops....I stand corrected....its inside the 60dBu on the edge. Still the subject of controversy though.

Question: If you were another Reno radio station- An AM-would you drop an existing format for Smooth Jazz or would you do something more along the lines of Timeless Cool?

Traditional smooth jazz is a dying radio format. I wouldn't place smooth jazz on an AM station even if the format were still viable. I believe something along the line of Timeless Cool may be your best option, provided there is a market void for that type programming not currently available on FM. With rare exceptions, there are very few formats that will still work on any AM station although AM can still be a profitabe medium if carefully programmed, marketed and sold. Remember who actually listens to AM radio and target that audience. Again, with rare exceptions, no one under 50 listens to AM radio today.

Well stated..I believe that Broadcast Architecture debuted the "Smooth AC" format for just that reason. Reno has nothing like Timeless Cool on FM. When it had Adult Standards they rated well and the County underwrote it on a commercial station. Without the underwriting the format was not sustainable due to lack of commercial support.
