Reno Ratings:Country Upset

I was surprised to see that for the first time ever CUB COUNTRY beat K-BULL. Maybe somebody up in Reno had some insight on how this happened and why KBUL has been in a freefall, losing half it's share over the past year.

The #1 station in Reno continues to be news/talk KKOH. It has a higher share than ALL of the AM stations in Las Vegas combined!

The biggest gainer in Reno is Regional Mexican KRNV. They moved up over 3 shares and are now the #1 FM station. This did not come at the expense of Spanish language competitor KSRN who also went up.

Every FM in the Americom cluster went down.

KBUL lost it's PD eariler this year (or was it late last year? time flies). The station itself really is just a shell of it's former self, leaving room for KUUB (which, to my radio ears, sounds superior) to grab the shell and run.

It was a strange book - obviously subject to Arbitron's fabled methodology. One thing I have been hearing is that there was bad sampling in adult females (low response?), hence the drop in pretty much all of the female-demo stations.

The weird exceptions are the two CHR's...KWNZ and KWYL - up 12+ and more or less the same in positions in their target demos (females) as the last book.

Reading back what I just wrote, I should clarify that the tastes of the few female respondents were not so much in the favor of most of the female-demo stations. According to Arbitron, that is...

KBULs PD left a year ago and the station has not sounded like it should since he left. This marks the first time since 1990 that another country station has beaten KBUL and there have been at least 10 others through the years. Congrats to Lotus. Now let's see if they are for real or not.

Ditto to Lotus.

Hopefully the weirdness of this last book wasn't the only thing that helped them... I've known from day one that they are out to obliterate the Bull - not just steal numbers and revenue.
