....If they want loyal listeners their format should be towards MORE serious classical, not less serious, as is the case. I see their programming decisions as nothing less than a formula for failure.

WCRB was going nowhere until they changed to, for want of a better description, Classical Lite a number of years ago. In just a couple of books, they were, IIRC, the most successful classical station in the country, ratings-wise.

The two above statements seems to be contradictory...

You say it's a "formula for failure".

Then you point out how WCRB becamse one of the most sucessful Classical formats in the country doing just that.

The top quote was not originally posted by TSBench, it was posted by FPB. TSBench didn't post the quote properly so it didn't appear in a box as quoted by FPB. The bottom quote is TSBench's reply to FPB.

>>WCRB's signal is just about the least of their problems.

Whether or not the new direction of the station is good or bad, check out the post I made
about an article from the founder of WFCC, now run by Charles River Broadcasting (who
spun off WCRB to Nassau)--he laments the current direction of THAT station and wonders
if it will be sold to someone who will get rid of classical.

WFCC is safe. It's going to Sandab (owner of 99.9 WQRC, 103.9 WOCN), which has promised that the format will remain. WFCC's sister station WKPE 104.7, also going to Sandab, probably isn't going to be as lucky.
