replacing Crummey with Ramsey?

What do some of you have against Bohannon?

There's not a lot of choice for night-time stuff. I doubt they'd bring Hendrie back, though it would be good for 10pm and on... Can't do Coast to Coast AM. What else? Midnight Trucking Radio Network? :D

Six hours of Dave Ramsey? As the Buckeye Boyz would exclaim: "Yikes!"

I actually enjoy listening to Jim's America in the Morning on my drive into work. Robert Workman's sports reports are on par with Paul Calvisi's, minus the sfx. Good times.

What about Red Eye Radio with Doug McIntyre? The show just started in February. Might be a good fit for KTAR. :)

Yes, but KT'R would have the same scheduling problem that they did with Hendrie
during the four-month "winter" (nationwide standard time) period.

McIntyre airs live 1-5 AM ET (same as C2CUFOs) so what does KT'R do at 10 PM
from November-March--air an hour from the prior night's show until the network
goes hot at 11 PM? Of course, that's what 55/FYI does with C2C in the winter.

I forgot all about that option. Not a good name for a show though (a lot of people will confuse it with Fox News show of the same name).

As for what I said about Dennis Miller, I take it back. He just jumped off the deep end, and is never coming back. Maybe 960 is a good place for him.

KFYI probably has a similar issue with Rush and Sean. Rush airs live at 12 N ET, Sean at 3 PM ET. What happens when AZ is on MST and the rest of the country is on DST? KFYI's website says Rush starts at 10 AM, Sean at 1 PM. Is the first hour of both shows tape-delayed to compensate for the time difference.

Same thing with Mike & Mike. They air on ESPN at 6 AM ET. KTAR-AM's schedule says they air at 3 AM in AZ. That makes sense when AZ is on MST during the spring and summer, but what happens during nationwide standard time in the winter months?

AZ's time peculiarities sure make life interesting for a radio engineer! :)

During DST, El Rushbo and Hannity are on a one-hour delay on KFYI, during the
four months of standard time both shows are live.

KFYI's "little brother" station in Tucson--KNST 790--airs both shows live year-round
(9-3 now, 10-4 come November). This may not work at KFYI, since Akbar hates the
concept. ;) Or more likely because the Nearly Bald One would absoutely refuse to
come back at 3 PM for eight months of the year!

What time does the 5 o'clock flight leave for Fresno?...uhh, at 5 o'clock! That's why Nurse Jeff and I teach our Buckeye Media Hut students not to mess around with starting times for popular programs. El Rushbo at 10 and Hannity at 1 every weekday on 5~Fifty. As far as Tucson's KSNT goes...we don't know why, but we're talking with the Ol Pueblo Media Hut franchisee about some recurrent training!

Just what I thought! How then does Mike & Mike air at 3 AM year-round on KTAR-AM? During nationwide standard time, is the 3 AM hour tape delayed from the day before? :)

Can't help you with Sports Parking Lot 620--I don't pay much attention to jock talk radio,
other than some PBP.

Perhaps one of our other Tanim Board regulars can handle this. Keith?

I still can't believe how many hours of Dave Ramsey's show is currently being aired on KTAR. The guy begins at 7:00 P.M. and his show drags on until 1:00 A.M. That's 6 hours, or 1/4 of the time in a day, of a show that's practically an infomercial on how great the guy is saving people from financial misery. This better be a temporary solution for Bonneville because six hours of talk by the same guy on an FM power-house signal is way too much.

My question to all of you is this: Where have all the good local talk-radio hosts gone? ???

6 hours is nothing compared to the all day (quite literally from 10am to 7pm-ish) devotion to the Cardinals game last Sunday. Should I be avoiding KTAR any time there might be "all-day" Cardinals coverage?

What KTAR has done is, in effect, chase *NEWS* talk listeners away from Ramsey and over to KFYI to listen to Savage. He's not local, but he's certainly more entertaining. Thanks, Master Blogger. I'm sure Clear Channel thanks you, too.

Barring any action by the FCC that would boost KWSS to a more-listenable range and put Radio Phoenix (which has some good local talk radio) onto AM/FM, I'd say we're officially in the Dark Ages of Local Talk Radio.

It wasDouble Play Friday night as the first hour of Ramsey's show was repeated three hours later at 10pm. The Nurse and I already knew who far in the hole the hapless caller was before Dave specified the size of shovel she'd need. YIKES! (and btw, the correct pronounciation is K'TR...the A is slient)

Isn't it a double play Ramster-a-thon every weeknight on KT'R?

Now if we could get PD Kris Jeff to combine "double play" and "That '70s Weekend"... ;D

Let's not forget KNX -- unless we're not counting them because of the single hour of national programming they air Sunday night? If so, KGO is out as well; besides the be-fro'ed ophthalmologist in midday M-F, their weekend sked sports both LaPorte's and Brinker's delayed syndie filler.

KGO gets credit for this for running completely live, local overnight shows 7 days a week.

Dr. Dean gets an asterisk since he is local (Marin County) and doing his show from there, and was local on KGO before going national (first EFM, later, Jacor/Premiere).

Brinker treats KGO and SF as almost a flagship, and he's down to one day a week anyway. Last I checked, KGO is filling his old Saturday slot with local fill-ins. This week, it's former "KGO Afternoon News" co-host Rosie Allen.

Oh, and Leo LaPorte is a Bay Area local, too, IIRC.

I'm a relatively newbie to the Valley, but I sure miss the old days, even though it wasn't that long ago of the old KTAR FM. When they were so proud of being live and local. I missed the all day, including weekends expanded traffic and weather together on the 9s, I wonder if the weeknight/weekend hosts got tired of being interrupted for traffic reports in the middle of their shows.

I also miss the old traffic beds they used to play. I wish I could find that recording, I really like the chime and ding and the flow it. I realize this is old but this new traffic bed is horrible, trying to sound like a car or something.

Bring back the live and local KTAR, the one you were pushing for and so proud of, that you had coverage from 5:00 AM to Midnight of live and local.

Bring back the Noon News.

I miss the days when KTAR interrupted programming for local breaking news, now I can read about it online if I'm near a computer.

Oh well at least I can have my opinion. LOL

I would totally agree with you. The early days of KTAR FM were the best in my opinion. Courtesy of the Way Back Machine, you had the morning news from 5:00 A.M. – 8:30 A.M. with Ned and Connie, you had a healthy Ankarlo everyday from 8:30 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., you had Arizona’s Noon News from 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M., Pat McMahon from 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Arizona’s Afternoon News with Ted Simmons and Jayme from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Larry Gaydos from 7:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M. and Phil Hendrie from 10:00 P.M. – 1:00 A.M. I also remember a time when Kid Stevens was on from 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. and Larry Gaydos was on from “9 to midnight, 9 to midnight, 9 to midnight because that’s how he rolls!” That lineup right there was pretty darn good with local talent and lots of live & local news around the clock. What’s missing? Nationally syndicated shows like Glen Beck and Dave Ramsey that we could all do without.

Sadly, the only thing left from that original line-up is Arizona’s Morning News. Gaydos is now with Mac in PM Drive, but I think his show was much better when he was alone and on late at night. Now, we’re treated to six hours of Dave Ramsey at night. Hopefully, some local talent will return to what used to be the valley’s premier news/talk station! :-\
