Replacing Queen Latifah

Are stations replacing Queen Latifah already?

Here in Connecticut Queen Latifah's show airs on WTNH Channel 8 at 9AM and sister station WCTX Channel 59 at 4PM.

Just before The Wendy Williams Show started on WCTX this morning there was a promo:

The All New Revamped Connecticut Style premieres January 12th at 9AM on WTNH.

Connecticut Style currently is a local lifestyle show hosted by Teresa DuFour (WTNH's traffic reporter) and airs 12:30PM.

Revamped? Does that mean it expands to an hour? What will WTNH air at 12:30? Will they try again with the hour long news at Noon? I don't know. They've already made cutbacks with their news. First dropping the 7AM-8AM News Cast on WCTX and replacing it with a simulcast of WTNH's 6AM news and then chopping off the 4:30AM-5AM Newscast on WTNH. Although they did expand the 10PM Newscast on WCTX and it now (including their 15 min sports show) ends at 11PM instead of 10:35.

What will WCTX air at 4PM? Will they move TMZ Live into that time slot or at 5PM and move Hot Bench to 9AM? Currently TMZ Live airing at 9AM on WCTX is on a one-day delay.

Based on what I've seen on television over the years, stations place a very high priority on keeping their viewers. Even when they don't know what they're going to put on the air to replace a current program, they still run teaser promos to promise that whatever changes happen, those changes will be great so viewers should stay tuned.

As for Queen Latifah herself, I would not be at all surprised if she is happy to stop doing her talk show. She's set to appear in an HBO biopic about Bessie Smith. She has made a few movies, and might like to make even more. As a behind-the-scenes business executive, she could be another Oprah, but unlike Oprah, Latifah also has major talent as a singer and as an actor. Hosting a talk show is one of Oprah's top talents. For Latifah, it's like the third or fourth best thing she does.

As a retired "Television insider" ... I can tell you that the TV station DOES know what new program will replace the current program. By not making an announcement, they keep the competition in the dark.
It's part of the game. A TV station knows it's future program lineup at least one season in advance. Even when a syndicated program is cancelled with little notice, the station has other programs sitting on the back burner so that they can be put on the air very quickly. TV stations pay close attention to the national ratings of the various programs. They know which programs will be cancelled long before the general public.

Will they air an infomercial at 12:30?

I'm hoping for a Roseanne rerun either at 12:30PM on WTNH or in the 4PM timeslot on their sister station WCTX where Queen Latifah's show is currently airing. WCTX stopped showing Roseanne reruns in September of this year. Now the only time I get to see Roseanne is on the weekend on TVLAND and the episodes are poorly edited and filled with an extra 6 minutes of commercials during every airing. :-(
