replacing the songs in playlist?

Ok, so i have some 600 songs in rotation, but after i play them for a month or two, should i make some replacements in playlist or not, i change currents every 30 days (i have 6 songs in current category, and play them two times per hour). I heard that stations (AC) change about 20% of songs but i don't know how often they do it. Opinions?

Okay, instead you should have some(mmmph ARGH ACKK! ) 3000 titles! ( carried off, stuggling, in a padded jacket, by "the consultants")

Never mind me. I'm not happy yet with 2500 elements.

Yes, rotate and consider than even NEEDING to rotate the lists indicates a scarcity of titles even though testing "proves" otherwise.
Have a cup of tea and contemplate the inevitability of absolute uniformity.
Submit.

Play only one song until everyone is sick of it and it's gentically ingrained, then move on to the "next" song.

I'm thinking about stunting on my pt 15 AM with 24 hours of "Yummy Yummy Yummy" by the Ohio Express.

First, change currents as soon as you find new songs you think are worth playing. Don't wait for some arbitrary point in time; if it's worth playing in your opinion, it is worth playing now. You are not running a museum, so "ageing" new releases does nothing to enhance them. Even waiting for a specific day off the week to make adds no longer makes sense.

I'm assuming you are asking this question either because you have a web stream station or a low power one... stations that cqn afford research (meaning you bill well north of $1 million a year) would do ongoing research on currents, and replace those that climb the chart" with new songs, or, replace those that stiff out with other new songs.

As to the rest of the playlist, many stations rotate songs in and out to rest the lesser titles. This is a useful paractice, particularly if you can't afford a good music scheduling program which will control horizontal and vertical rotation to avoid burn. Probably the best way to do this is to put a small number of songs on rest each week, and replace them with others. That way, a perception of variety is created by the introduction of songs you have not played for a while, and burn is prevented by not overplaying the lesser songs which we assume would be the ones that don't stand up to much repetition.

600 is not an excessive library size for an AC that is gold based, so you could easily play about 400 at any one time, and have plenty of songs resting and recycling. Many AC's have less than 400 in regular rotation, so you have planty of options.
