Reponses to Where Are They Now?

Hey, Just want to say many thanks to all of you who responded. At one point in my career I worked with each and everyone of the people mentioned in that original query.

I find it amazing how incredibly close we were and the tight-knit bonds we formed and the many incredible memories of stuff that happened both on AND off the air! Yet, over time, we lost touch as our careers moved forward from Northeast Ohio and we scattered all over the country.

Thanks again, and I am still looking for a cause of death for Sweet Richard,
the whereabouts of Stevie "Baby Michaels", Debbie Ullman (who, I understand, was in a very serious car accident), Chuck (with pipes on loan from God) Meyer, and is JR Nelson living in Detroit or is he back home in Oak Harbor?

For what it's worth, I've got an update on Mike Richards. He supervises security operations at Port Columbus International Airport. He says he misses radio, but would never go back with the way things are now. :-(

Hey, Thanks exnewsie, but curious. This is Port Columbus security guy really the same Michael Kail from Gnaddenhutten who used the airname Michael C. Richards at WHOT?

There was also a sales guy at the old WCUE AM/1150 and 96.5 WCUE-FM in the mid 70's named Mike Richards who was a former cop and did some security work.

I worked with both of them and know they are not one in the same. If you find out anything let me know. -Thanks!

It's the one and the same! :) As far as I know, Mike never worked at WCUE.

On a related note, a friend mentioned a former WCUE PD by the name of Bob Knight who worked there circa 1972. Prior to that, he spent time in Toledo. Anybody know of his whereabouts today?

Xnewsie,
The Bob Knight who was at WCUE in the early 70's is the
same Bobby Knight whom I worked with at WIXY 1260. If I
remember correctly. he was at WCUE 1970-71 and came to WIXY
after leaving WCUE. Bobby is now (last I heard)PD of 1Kw
fulltimer WSBB 1230 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and runs an
Adult Standards format (mostly Westwood One satellite).

Re: Bobby Knight

Sadly, Bobby's (Christened name:Dale Allenbaugh Sr.) son was killed recently.

From the Port Orange, Fla. News:

Dale R. Allenbaugh, 39, may have been an innocent victim of a drive-by shooting in Florida.

Allenbaugh, a disc jockey and a graduate of Firestone High at Akron, was shot early Saturday while he was getting a ride to his house in Port Orange, Fla., from a friend and co-worker after work.

Allenbaugh’s father, Dale G. Allenbaugh is better known as "Bobby Knight" to Florida radiom listeners.

At least two suspects are being held in connection with the shooting. Allenbaugh was shot at least twice from the suspects’ minivan in a residential area only blocks from his house.

A witness said the suspects may have been seeking revenge against Allenbaugh’s co-worker because he had thrown the two out of the Shark Lounge at Daytona Beach where Allenbaugh worked as a disc jockey.

Allenbaugh’s father said his son had been in the disc jockey business since 1986 and worked for several stations. The two even worked on a show together for a station in Charlotte, N.C. After that, he lived in Dover,Ohio for about a year helping his mother recover from an illness.

“He would make friends easily,” said the elder Allenbaugh. “He’s personable. He makes people laugh. That something like this would happen to a person who’s caring ... I just don’t know what to say. He was a peacemaker not a troublemaker.”
