REPORT CARD ON PULSE 87 SIGNAL ON LONG ISLAND

I've been able to carry it clearly in my car radio along the Northern State and LIE into the Nassau-Suffolk border...it seems to begin fading out by then.

I've been able to receive it in some of the hillier parts of Port Jefferson as well, but not with any consistency.

I'd love to hear it in my car, but my car system starts at 87.9 or 88 something, does not go that far down

Dear Lalumia:

After reading many of your posts....we know you enjoy Scott Shannon's oldies ch...I remember a Lalumia who was in a rock band during the start of the PUNK ERA. The good ole days when WPIX-FM played PUNK. The SIMONE PHONE on PIX was the best thing on the radio. When Mark was off...we had Alan Colmes doing a call-in show on WPIX on weekends. I remember Alan Colmes having Uncle Floyd as a guest.

My friend was into PUNK. He told me he loved the band. Did you ever work at a record store? This record store sold THE RADIO GUIDE. Owned a store?

Sidenote...when Mark went over to 570 WMCA...SIMONE PHONE was not the same. It was perfect on PIX!

you mean the same LaLumia who started the Disco Sucks craze with 1977's "Death To Disco", which actually got played, heavily edited, once, on WABC (The Howard Hoffman show, Top 9 at 9 ,3 years after it's release? the owner of Jimi La Lumia's Record Connection from 1987 until 2004? Guilty as charged....

This has nothing to do with Pulse's signal. However, I did get a chance to listen when I traveled into Nassau. Wow, what a great station! From the imaging, to the jock that was on who was female. It is such a hip dance station, whereas I turn on Party105 in Suffolk to hear hip-hop. It's weird, I feel like I am in a cool NYC club when I listen to Pulse, and when Party105 is on, I'm looking around for guidos in Mustangs.

I don't know how well it does on Long Island, but its reception in Connecticut should be similar.

Pulse87's signal in Connecticut
Long Island City: A+
Port Chester: A
Stamford: A-
Norwalk: B
Fairfield: B-
Bridgeport: C (on Long Island at this distance, Party 105.3 should be coming in well)
Milford: C/C-
New Haven: D (about as far east of "that big blue building" as Manorville, NY)
Meriden: F

What station are you listening to...I hardly hear any hip-hop since Vic's return. I think Party sounds Great! If you're looking around for Guido's, perhaps you should listen to Randy in the morning...maybe he's your type! lol

Just my oppinion..But I think Party is trying to fill in a void on Long Island by playing a wide variety of "todays music". Turning on Party, you'll never hear anything that is less than a "party" format and all they're music is upbeat. But I do agree, they probably should play more Dance if they want to be classified as a Dance station. Bella Trax - I Can't Help Myself is on every two hours, and thats starting to bug me. But as far as the overall station, I think theyre doing a good job with programming.

When I listen to Party, I hear WBLI with a beat...I hear the same artists except Party will play the dance versions that you hear in the Clubs. Some Hip Hop? Absolutely, but thats just the nature of the beast. I hear the mainstream Hip Hop. Do you hear hip hop on BLI? Yes. If its current why wouldn't you.

I agree..Party, I feel, sounds better than BLI (sound wise) and I like how they are over-modulating they're transmitter. I like that affect (even though we all know what THAT is..)

The void in L.I. is dance music, L.I. has a top 40 station 2 if you consider the fact that Z100 has a decent signal in western and central L.I. then you have a 3rd once you get east on Beach. Wanna stand out? play dance! people who want all the top 40 hits have plenty of sources for it. But then again, that might make sense so don't expect anyone at TMO to do it even though I'm sure they've all already thought it but figure it's easier to fire the PD and using as a fall guy than it is to do what is right.

BLI with a beat, because the Jonas Brothers, Sara Bareilles, and Colbie Caillat sound real hot with a crappy beat under it lol. :D

Impressive. Who is the PD? Good line up of music. Lively on-air personalities. Imaging sounds great. Star & Buc Wild in the morning. New station and they already have decent stop sets. Also was looking at their website, not bad. Quite a few comments left by LONG Island listeners on the site. I would say this station is going to be 1 to contend with.

Too bad they won't be counted by Arbitron. As far as decent stop sets, its easy to fill a stop set with PI's, but unless you get response, you get no $$$'s. Don't know about you, but my car radio starts at 87.9. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

They will be counted by Arbitron, starting when the PPM is rolled out again and perhaps sooner. The PD is Joel Salkowitz (of Hot 103/97 fame). And lately, their stopsets have been more than just PI's.

May be counted, but won't be listed. FCC considers 87.7 a TV Frequency

I think we all know that this is a TV station broadcasting as a radio station. And they will be more than just counted, Pulse signed a deal with Arbitron and will be part of the official PPM measurements. Whether or not the numbers are published (such as the 12+ numbers we all see) is not really relevant, as long as the station and its advertisers have a sense of who is listening, which they will with the PPM data.
