REPORT CARD ON PULSE 87 SIGNAL ON LONG ISLAND

I think we all know that this is a TV station broadcasting as a radio station. And they will be more than just counted, Pulse signed a deal with Arbitron and will be part of the official PPM measurements. Whether or not the numbers are published (such as the 12+ numbers we all see) is not really relevant, as long as the station and its advertisers have a sense of who is listening, which they will with the PPM data.

That's funny....your earlier post said "They will be counted by Arbitron, starting when the PPM is rolled out again and perhaps sooner". Now youre saying they will be "part of the official PPM measurements, but numbers aren't published". Well....what good is that if you can't even look to see how you do 12+. Don't need numbers for local selling...good luck with national. That's my business and I won't touch it.

No, because Pulse will be able to see how they are doing 12+ and in every other demographic breakdown. They will also be able to share that information with any potential advertisers.

Here's a press release with more information:

Excerpt: "NEW YORK, March 10, 2008 - Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) today announced that Mega Media Group, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MMDA) has signed a multi-year contract for station-specific custom Portable People Meter listening estimates for “Pulse 87 FM,” (WNYZ-LP). WNYZ-LP broadcasts on the audio portion of a low-power television station on VHF channel 6."...

...and if you keep reading that article, "...In addition, it has signed an agreement to license the standard, syndicated Portable People Meter radio ratings services for the New York Metro, which does not include estimates for low-power television stations broadcasting as radio stations. Only AM and FM radio stations are currently eligible to be reported in Arbitron syndicated services.

Yes, and if you continued reading immediately below that:

"This agreement allows Mega Media Group to use both the monthly WNYZ-LP station-specific custom Portable People Meter listening estimates as well as the standard, syndicated New York Metro Portable People Meter radio ratings."

so they can say they're #1 ,and you have to take it on good faith? How is the media supposed to report on their progress?

Keyword there is "Station Specific Custom"....thats for them, and then there's the "Standard Syndicated" which will not include them. There's some credibility issues there. Just goes to show you....You can Buy Ratings....

I don't think most agency or ad buys are based on whatever numbers are printed in the newspaper. Honestly, as long as station-specific data from Arbitron is available that can be backed up, that's really the most important thing for Pulse in terms of selling ad time. Whether or not us radio geeks get to see the ratings is not relevant for anything other than our own discussions, and honestly, most "regular" listeners have no clue what a station's ratings are one way or another...how many people do you think even pay attention to those things?
