I had an interesting phone call tonight -- an old radio co-worker who's ended up spending most of his years in newsprint called. In between the usual catching-up stuff, he told me about meeting some friends at Radio Row a couple of days before the Super Bowl. He said he noticed a few of the booths had small crowds around them, made up of guests who were about to go on the air, other radio people, interested bystanders, etc. They tended to be the radio sports networks you would guess, a couple of syndicated shows, a couple of the major market sports stations, and ... The Zone from Nashville?????
He wanted to know if I knew about the station. He said he asked around about the attention The Zone was receiving and learned that the station has a reputation among players, coaches, teams, writers, hosts, etc. for treating guests respectably and for approaching sports seriously. Apparently many see a lot of the network and major market sports radio hosts as clowns who seem only interested in getting more attention for themselves rather than treating guests as human beings. He said one or two he asked also referenced McClain's interest in the station or Wycheck's presence on the station as reasons they were drawn to it.
Basically, he just thought it was interesting that this station in Nashville was getting as much attention as some of the big guys, especially with A-list guests.
