Report: Larry King to be replaced?

Anyone would be better than keeping that crotchety old fool there. I think the Piers Morgan thing might be good.

I have a feeling that CNN is going to go towards a more entertainment outlook than being the news worthy network they were years ago to try to stay alive. Piers Morgan seems like a cheap replacement for Larry King.

If King goes away, then the whole 8-10pm (eastern) block will be all-new, (what with Campbell Brown exiting.) AC360 isn't exactly performing ratings-wise either. My guess is all of the evening programming will eventually be revamped.

However, CNN is saying that Larrry is "part of the team", and they are looking at replacing Campbell most immediately. Could they be looking at Piers to replace Campbell, not Larry?

Doesn't matter what they do. Nothing will beat O"Reilly & Hannity anyway.

I have a novel idea----why not do a two hour news block from 8-10?

You'd have the right on Fox, the idiot libs on MSNBC and news to counter program both on CNN.

...someone with access to London radio talker Nick Abbot's most recent LBC podcasts can check, but I have to assume he's having a field day with this news. Back in the '90s, when Abbot was on Virgin 1215 and Morgan was simply a newspaper columnist, Abbot would call is newspaper on-the-air and ask for "Piers Moron" (and the operators at the newspaper's switchboard rarely caught onto the gag, putting Nick straight through to Piers' office)...

Something fishy about that story. Piers hasn't done any fill-ins for Larry. Larry's contract takes him to June 2011. He was pretty unpopular when he won Celebrity Apprentice. I'd say he has a better shot at replacing Simon Cowell, but he's already done the judge gig.

Even though Larry King is leaving his nightly show on CNN, he will continue to do specials, but depending on who's
running the news division, when his show leaves the air this fall, chances are he won't be back, besides, i think he
is ready for some time with his current wife, and other family members.
As for a replacement?, let the speculation start, i still think they should shift the HLN prime time to CNN, the show
schedule for 8pm when Campbell Brown departs won't last long.

...I was a board op at two of Larry's affiliates in his Mutual Radio days, WYNE Kimberly WI (1981) and KFIZ Fond du Lac WI (1990). Before he took the CNN gig (and had his first heart attack shortly afterwards), Larry had a lot of fun doing the radio show, and it sounded like it. By 1990, he was absolutely burnt out on the radio side (another reason why Tom Snyder on ABC Radio was a vastly better choice in those days). By 2000, he was simulcasting the TV show on radio and half of the time doing "[insert celebrity's name here] Remembered" memorial programs a couple of days after they'd died. Five years later, he would retread those memorial programs on the anniversaries, and even his old pal Don Rickles begged him on-the-air to stop bringing him back on only when it was a memorial show of some kind. The shows of the last seven years have been invariably awful to watch (I gave up trying when I saw the clip of Larry asking Altovise Davis how Sammy Jr. took Dean Martin's passing -- Dean died five years after Sammy did)...

If any daypart should be "merged" between the two networks, it should be morning drive, as I've argued before.

By the way, am I the only one that finds it interesting that Larry made this announcement right on the heels of the new Eliot Spitzer/Kathleen Parker 8 PM show being announced?

Apparently, Weekly World News got the real scoop that ET!, The Insider, and all the other news agencies couldn't get on the real reason Larry King is leaving CNN.

http://weeklyworldnews.com/headlines/18525/alien-tells-larry-king-to-leave-cnn/

The aliens told him, he needs to leave. In his off time, he will spending more time with his wife, kids and taking extended trips to Planet Zeeda. Also, according to an anonymous source, CNN has been ran by aliens for the past 10 years. Who knew!

:D ;D

Thought it was funny article, and would post it!
