REPORT: OWN OVER $300 MILLION IN DEBT

OWN won't be too long for this world (i.e. OWN is on life-support and a matter of time before they [Discovery] pulls the plug).

They won't pull the plug (that never seems to happen with TV). They'll just rename the network something else and replay other Discovery programs.

I don't see OWN around for the long haul.

If OWN were to eventually go away, it would be interesting to see what Discovery would re-brand it as. Their recent efforts have been decent - Discovery Times to ID has been quite successful, and I think Destination America, the upcoming Planet Green replacement, will do well for them also. The combined FitTV/Discovery Health isn't bad and makes more sense. A history-themed channel would be interesting, but they tried that with Discovery Civilization in the 90s.

Maybe they can bring back Planet Green and rename it Soylent Green. ::)

Oprah doesn't have any of her personal wealth invested in it, so at worst she'll just lose her start up money she put in it.

She may have a clause in her contract, if Discovery pulls the plug before a certain time, Oprah gets her money back. Maybe Discovery will wait until that time frame has passed before changing the name.

I feel that both parties may stick with it until the current agreement is up, but not a second after. Maybe not, though, if it's a long contract. Both parties are losing big time. Discovery probably wants to be done with OWN and Oprah probably wants to be done with it as well. Whenever the contract is up between the two parties, IMO Discovery will take the network back over.

Perhaps the Oprah-based programs like "Oprah's Lifeclass" could find a home at TLC?

Saw on one of the online sites today that they think they will be making profits by year's end...

Was it The Onion? :D Or could it be this?
