Reports of Pandora's Burial are Exagerated

Another nail in terrestrial radio's coffin. See the USA, as you listen to Pandora.

Reuters reports Pandora has made a deal with General Motors to put Pandora in new Chevrolets. Pandora will be part of "Chevy MyLink" in a touch screen on Chevy dashboards. The article says new media has become an increasingly important competitive factor in driving car sales to people in the "money demos" - the same segment showing significant declines in terrestrial radio use.

Interesting. Would this be a part of OnStar or would it require a separate cellphone account? I haven't owned a Chevy in 15 years and don't pay much attention to GM anymore, so I have no idea how they're planning to do this.

It's part of OnStar, which means you have to pay for it. Good luck with that one, GM.

I would think that most people that might be interested in this service already have a smartphone, and can put the Pandora app on it if they want. Connect a $50 FM transmitter between your phone and the cigarette lighter accessory socket, and you're good to go for whatever you want to listen to. I know it works for me.
