REPORTS OF UPCOMING CHANGES AT 92.9 AND 97.1 FM

According to Inside Tucson Business, 92.9 will morph from The Mountain 92.9 into MY92.9 within weeks. The new format will be some form of Adult Contemporary music that will compete with MIX 94.9. KNST will start simulcasting on KTZR 97.1, the current home of Spanish A/C music. 97.1 will more than likely take the calls KNST-FM (this last sentence was not in the Inside Tucson Business report).

I believe you are correct. If I recall, 97.1 is licensed to either Sahuarita or Green Valley, so the signal would not be booming in that area, but since the format skews 35+, they'll get more of the older listeners in the southern half of Pima County.

I f the changes, as you mention, does happen, does that mean that 790 would go back to the 790Mighty Kcee like in the 1980's.(lol) more importantly-would the oldies return to a station with a decent signal-maybe dig up the oldies personalities again. Since Tucson has no real radio personalities any more. What a radio market-both with formats and lack of good on air people-(I feel like Charlie Brown-"is there anyone listening"?

i dont know why they are changing the station its last arbitron rating was at 3.5 which isnt bad, and they are the 8th ranked station, in the Tucson market.

I used to live in Tucson in the 80s and worked at KTUC. I now reside in Seattle, and can only share what happened here. KIRO AM, a 50,000 watt powerhouse in the Pacific Northwest, flipped their AM news/talk to FM and everyone thought they'd gone nuts. After only two years the station is #1 in the ratings on their new FM frequency. The AM flipped to all sports (ESPN/local hosts hybrid) and still ranks in the top 10. As to KNST, returning to KCEE, that won't happen. KCEE is on 690 and is owned by Good News Broadcasting. As for putting oldies on 790, unlikely. Clear Channel which owns KNST, just had oldies on 1450 KWFM which they own as well, and it didn't last too long, now the station is all comedy. KSL in Salt Lake City runs their news/talk on AM and FM, and own the market (#1 for many books). KNST will more than likely just pick up a lot more listeners that never bother to check out the AM dial, and continue to hold the ones they have. In areas where the FM signal is clearer, it will give those listeners a better sound (no static, hiss, etc) that is so the bane of the AM dial.

I spend waaaaay to much time on Facebook, looking for a place to "Like" this???

So according to reports-KNST 790 with Rush and Sean will also be broadcasting on the FM dial at 97.1. Will that make that much of a difference? I thought they both already owned their respective time slots. It's the morning guy at KNST that's hard to listen to. 104.1 with Justice is soo much better and so are the 2 guys at 1030 Chris and Joe.
Imagine if Journal could pry away Rush and Sean and put them on 104.1-they would be unbeatable. Just thinking-
And as far as 92.9-what city the size of Tucson does not have an Oldies station? I know they were Oldies years ago and did real well. I guess that's why some have XM radio for the 60's or '70's. Format on there now is just awful-what a waste.

I'm super surprised that CC has not flipped to all Christmas just to beat Mix since they will soon compete head to head to Cloud 95's format soon..... ???
