Request: Brave New Waves (CBC Radio Two & WXPN)

Thanks to an email I got from the guy with the Nordine recordings, it has revived an old request. There was this excellent show on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) that airs all kinds of alternative and experimental music after midnight. It's called Brave New Waves, and I've been listening to it off and on for the last 15 years (both online and off). I've been introduced to a lot of my favorite artists through that show, during the brief time it was simulcasted here in Philadelphia on WXPN back in the early 90s when I was in junior high. Last March, after over 20 years, the show was taken off the CBC schedule due to some programming tinkering, which as far as I know, isn't working out as smoothly as they'd hoped at the moment.

Thanks to a friend of mine who lives near Detroit as well as a few other nice local folks, I've collected and encoded quite a few episodes of the show, I think the oldest one I have is from 1986, and the most recent was its last new show from May 2006. Whether you've listened in Canada or was one of the lucky few who heard it here in Philly (like I have), if you still have tapes of this show lying around, I'd love to swap copies with you. Either through MP3, CD, cassette - it's fine with me. I'm especially interested in stuff from say '89-93, but it can be any year, it's fine by me.

There isn't a show like this anywhere, and believe me, I've looked, and I want to have as an extensive a library of this show as possible, so I can share with others who ask about it (and quite a few have). To give you an idea of what I mean, here's something from 1991, as it aired on WXPN, an interview with British techno legends 808 State:

If this gives you flashbacks, or if it just makes you want more, hit me up.

I have some....somewhere. I imagine they are from the 1993-1996 period.

That was a great program! We used to go out to the bars and then come home and listen to that.

If you give me a chance I'll try to look for them in the near future.

That's cool, keep me posted on that. I've tried to find things that could fill the void the show has left (It ended over a year ago), but, obviously, that's impossible.

I've only heard that show once, but I absolutely loved it. I'd love to hear more shows. It would be great if we could get the CBC to archive content like that - because finding new "older" music is always fun.
