Research on Adult Standards

Hi All,

I work for a nonprofit that operates a station for the blind through SCA carrier. The majority of our day is newspaper, magazine, books and programs of interest to seniors, blind and disabled. Since we hand out the SCA receivers they need to hear the station, we're able to have a lot of interaction with the listeners. The most requested feature is music.

26 years ago, my first job was at a Drake-Chenault MOR. From working AC and oldies through the years, I'm comfortable with 60s and 70s vocals. But other than the obvious big band choices, I'm clueless. I have the Petula Clark, Neil Diamond, Nat King Cole and so forth. But the Woody Herman, Les Brown, Glen Miller tracks escape me.

Looking through the threads has helped. Any suggestions on music lists or stations that I might look at? Thanks for your help.

You can rip off our play list if you like. Just go to www.kzqx.com and click on the "Song by Title" link or the "Song by Artist" link. I won't tell you that it is the definitive list, but it is a good place to start.

I appreciate the tip, Chuck. Wish I would have made copies of the playlists from those Drake-Chenault reels. I'll definitely look at your list and make notes. Thanks!

Was your Drake-Chenault station Hitparade?

cd

cd, that's been too many moons ago. But I remember each reel was one hour of music. It wasn't using several reels at once. Artists I remember included Carpenters, Manilow, Lou Rawls, Manhattan Transfer...from what I remembered, it was the easy listening tracks from the 70s, then going back to the 40s. Don't know if that's enough to identify it. I remember the station had been Music of Your Life shortly before I started. Drake-Chenault's format was very close to that.
