Rest In Peace, Joe South

Best known for these hits... GAMES PEOPLE PLAY (Billboard rated #12 1/1/69); WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES (Billboard rated#12 1/3/70); & DON'T IT WANT TO MAKE YOU GO HOME (Billboard rated#41 8/23/69).

Curious ?? who did the "Purple People Eater meets The Witch Doctor" first..joe south or the big bopper.

according to 'Allmusic' PPE meets WD was orginally released by the BB who co-wrote the tune with Bernie Howitt. The tune was later released by Mr South who had more success in selling the recording.

Travesty of justice that "Don't It Make You Want to Go Home" (title corrected here) wasn't a bigger hit. Maybe it was a bigger hit over on the country charts.

GPP and WaMiMS complement each other IMO. I've never heard DIMYWtGH though. Tell me more about it (content, style, etc.). RIP Joe.
