Restomod?

Is anyone taking old mixing consoles, removing the electronics, and modifying them with new (and presumably better, modern) innards while maintaining the original look and function of the original, much like car restoration enthusiasts restore a rust bucket shell with a modern engine, fuel injection, electronics, etc? Hobbyists call these "restomods" (restored and modified.) Recently, I saw an article on a board custom made for Rick Dees that resembled and old RCA, but was a modern digital unit made to resemble an original. I miss those old fashioned rotary pots.

I have done that in the past.
Replaced the tube-type electronics with custom-built solid state electronics.
I don't know who, if anyone, is doing those mods now.
