"Restructuring" Planned For CNN

DToTheJ said:
You know CNN is in bad shape when they hire a "deputy director of programming."

That person, John Antonio, who comes to the cable news network on loan from WABC-TV in New York, is predicted to spearhead "the restructuring of CNN and its programming."

Doesn't sound good for "Parker/Spitzer."

If would be nice if CNN went back to its original mission statement and just featured news instead of these "cheesy" programs like John King USA, Anderson Cooper 360, Parker/Spitzer. Larry King might be gone come January but instead of offering some news coverage at night the network will replace the retiring King with Piers Morgan. ::)

I always get a laugh out of today's news when you compare it to how it was

I recall Ted Baxter wanting to change the name of the "Six O'Clock News" to "The Baxter Report" or at a minimum changing the name from "The Six O'Clock News With Ted Baxter" to "Ted Baxter And The Six O'Clock News."

Then having Mary explain to Ted how the news is the star of the show and you can't put a personality in front.

As Mary said "Even Walter Cronkite doesn't get billing ahead of the news"

But today what was considered a joke in the 70s is the norm today.

Look at "AC 360" I mean Anderson Cooper is so "cool" he doesn't even need a name initals are enough ;D

It's pretty simple really. News 24X7 isn't compelling enough to retain a sizable viewer base. And if CNN were to stick to hard news it would be even less compelling.

I found that CNNH was the best televised news. Give me the headline and a bit of detail then allow me to go offline somewhere to get the messy details if I am interested. You can only stretch a snowstorm in Europe so far without diving into fluff and time-wasters and that will dump the hard news fans immediately.
