Let's face it. Once you're in your 50s your on shakey ground. When you're in your 60s even if you want to stay on the air, unless your numbers justify it,a station will find a way to "convince" you it's time to leave. Who knows what radio will be like in 10 yrs and if some of today's older more experienced jocks can keep adapting to the changes. I'm thinking PRO-FM's Giovanni and LITE ROCK's David Jones have to be in their mid 50s. Both are well established. Neither has anyone waiting to step into their shoes. What will happen and how much longer will they keep at it or be allowed to keep at it. I think David's situation is better due to the age of the station's listeners. Giovanni and Kim still pull great numbers but audiences and their preferences will continue to change over the next 10 years.
Then there's Paul and Al who I'm pretty sure are a little younger but the population of this market being what it is and rock's declining popularity, can they last another 10 years?
Any opinions? Who is going to step into these people's shoes?
