We've been trying to figure out how network shows were
fed to the Mountain time zone in the '50s and early '60s;
it looks like most of them were in-pattern with the East,
two hours later (examples: Danny Thomas and "Twenty-One"
aired at 9 PM ET and, I notice, 7 PM on most of these Mountain
stations).

When stations in the South (EST) had to go on what was actually
a Central time zone schedule (pre-1958), it was not uncommon for
the 8 PM (EDT) show to air at 10, since the stations didn't want to
give up lucrative 7 PM syndicated shows. Burns and Allen, Phil Silvers,
and Groucho Marx are examples of shows that aired in my part of the
country at 10 instead of 7. So, for example, WFMY and WAGA would
carry "Name That Tune" on Tuesdays at 6:30 (EST), followed by a
syndicated show, then delay Phil Silvers from 7 to 10 (EST).

ABC daytime, such as it was, appears to be from the Central time zone feed.
At the time, the Eastern and Central time zones aired "American Bandstand"
at 3, "Who Do You Trust?" at 3:30, "Bandstand" back on the air at 4, "Fun At
Five" (which included "Superman") at 5, and the "Mickey Mouse Club" at 5:30.
This was clock time, but it looks like "Bandstand" and "Who Do You Trust?" were
carried alongside the Central time zone, while "Superman" and "Mickey Mouse Club"
were on a clock-time schedule (5 and 5:30 being more convenient than 4 and 4:30).

The schedules also reflect the EST/CST one hour delayed feed, which was
introduced for the DST period starting in 1958.

Seems the CBS and NBC affils pretty much aired the 8:30-11 ET net feed
"live" 6:30-9 MT, but then it was "oh, how do we fill the 9-10 hour"? The
Restless Gun episode on KTAR-TV was a week delay at 9 (16mm film?)--that
night's episode aired live at 6 on KOB-TV. Or the station just stuck random
shows in that hour. I doubt if anyone had local tape delay facilities in 1958.

I can't get a real handle on what the ABC stations did in prime time, but I'd
guess it was primarily 16mm film prints. Couldn't find any reference to the
show Report Card '58 (likely a one-shot ABC special), but it may have been
a live network feed (9:30-10:30 ET) on KTVK/KGUN. KOAT--at the time--may
not have had a Telco line (or alternate net feed source) and ran all of prime
time from 16mm films and kinnies.
