WSB ch 2---

12:15pm---Tic Tac Dough, joined in progress?!?!?!? Wow!

cd

My reaction, too, and I've known that for years. Still, it's better
than the treatment "Jeopardy!" got from Channel 2 when NBC carried
it at noon; it wasn't carried at all and was usually either handed off
to Channel 17 or pre-empted altogether in Atlanta.

Not wanting to stray OT, but I thought it was amazing that the original "Jeopardy!" at the 12 noon EST slot cleared as many affiliates as it did---or if not, that it lasted as long as it did in that slot, when many stations want to put news there.

Miami's WCKT 7 (then NBC) ran their news at 12:30, maybe because of J!, but a couple of my favorite game shows suffered ("Eye Guess" & "Who What or Where Game"). There was nobody to pick them up until about 1973 on indie ch 6, so we had to watch the fuzzy West Palm Beach station.

But a game show "in progress"....!!!

cd

"Haggis Baggis" involved a 5x5 board with five categories
and five letters under each category name; each letter
was the first letter in the correct answer. Contestants
took turns picking squares, with a correct answer revealing
part of a celebrity's face. First player to identify the face
could take "haggis" (relatively-expensive prizes) or "baggis"
(less-expensive prizes); the other player could win the same
prize package by correctly guessing which one the winner took.
Jack Linkletter hosted a primetime version of this show, while
Fred Robbins and Dennis James, successively, hosted the daytime
show.

Back to "Jeopardy!" WESH Daytona Beach/Orlando also used to
pre-empt "Who, What Or Where" in favor of news at 12:30 and in
order to run "Jeopardy!" at 12.

Wiki sez that there is one episode of "Haggis Baggis" floating amongst collectors. I like to collect classic game shows, but I never gave thought to get a copy of this. Sounds like fun.

Oh man, just remembered....

There was once a time, when networks in the daytime took a station break, even halfway thru a 30-minute show. I'm wondering if WSB joined the network right at that point, daily. But still, you'd usually have the announcer say "Welcome BACK to [name of show]," so the viewer would still say, "huh?"

By all means! Thanx! The whole episode?

Yes, back in those days, to account for odd instances like that, such NBC shows had a station break right in the middle.

After the soaps began expanding from 15 to 30 minutes, CBS
had a similar policy: a 40-second break about halfway through
for the affiliate to sell a 30-second spot and identify itself; when
the network came back up the announcer would say something like,
"And now, part 2 of (fill in the title)."

The shows were live then. Gives 40 sec. for the cast & crew to regroup, etc. ;)

Ya know, that's true, even the game shows.....I didn't give thought to that.
