Retro: Atlanta Monday, April 5, 1971

Red-letter day: "Password" begins a four-year
run on ABC. These, however, are the so-called
"lost episodes" which are not shown on GSN.
Supposedly ABC taped over them when it had
"Family Feud" and "The Better Sex." Why Mark
Goodson and Bill Todman didn't save a copy, as
they did practically all their other shows, is a
mystery. Or are they really in hiding someplace?
"Password" did not air in Atlanta at the time; Ch.
11 (then the ABC affiliate) did find a place for it
by late 1971, but dropped it around the time of
the disastrous "Password All-Stars" format.

Schedules are from the Atlanta Constitution and

any idea what the NHL Action show was on Ch. 17 at 11PM?
Would seem like an odd choice for Atlanta at that time.
Not even the Flames had started to play there yet.

Could it perhaps have been some sort of a syndicated weekly highlight show, a la "This Week in Baseball"?

"NHL Action" was probably similar to "This Week in
Baseball" or "NFL Action." True, the Flames didn't
start playing until 1972, but I think Atlanta was
close enough to getting an NHL team that Ted Turner
figured he could build some interest. Trouble was,
he didn't own the Flames, and for the first year or
so they were on Ch. 2.
