Probably a tape-delay of a race run the previous Sunday
at Atlanta International Raceway. The Constitution didn't
show anything for Ch. 5 past 1 AM, and the race was still
on at that time.

Apparently, the live CBS telecast was blacked out in Atlanta on the day of the race.

No doubt in Macon as well. I remember when ABC had
this race WSB and then-ABC affiliate WGXA/24 in Macon
were always blacked out. I don't recall either airing
the race on tape. But I do suspect CBS let Ch. 5 show
the 1976 race on tape-delay.
 
Notre Dame beat Alabama 21-18 while Texas and Arkansas played to a 6-6 tie
