According to Wikipedia, Channel 42 debuted on 10/17/65. I remember when it came on, but since I was only 5 at the time I don't remember all the details.

For whatever reason (probably the combo of their weak signal and it not being available to cable viewers in Tuscaloosa and Northport), Channel 42 wasn't included in the Tuscaloosa News' listings. I'll try to go through Google News Archive and see exactly when they added Channel 42. I do know that by the mid '70's they also included the listings for Channel 9 in Tupelo.
