Might have been. That was one Indy station that didn't come in too well in Bloomington, mostly due to massive overload from WFIU's 75,000-watt on-campus transmitter 400 kHz up the dial.

I think it was in 1972 that they became WXTZ, about the same time WFIU moved to the WTIU Channel 30 tower on the south side of Bloomington. End of overload problems. :-D

WGEE also was simulcast on 1590. That frequency didn't become WNTS until the mid 70s.

WGEE was a rocker on 1590 in the early '60s but I thought it had changed to religion by 1969. IIRC, the Indy rock war was strictly between WIFE and WNAP by that time.

I remember them as sort of a forerunner of hot AC. Simulcast on 1590 and 103.3. FM was sold to WIRE and became beautiful music WXTZ. AM changed to country as WNIR. By the mid 70s 1590 had become news talk WNTS. Then moved to religion in '77 I believe.

Brian is correct about WGEE. I still have an aircheck from my dad's midday shift from February, 1971. It was a 1971 version of what today would be considered AC. The top of the hour ID mentions "WGEE and WGEE-FM", so they were simulcast at that time.
