This was also the day after John Glenn's pioneering orbital space flight.

If he returned to Cape Canaveral that day, I would think that regular programming scheduled for the time he arrived at the Cape would be pre-empted for live coverage of his arrival ceremony.

The women's show at 10:05 A.M. on WHDH-5 was titled "For Women Only", hostess Chris Evans (who sometimes billed herself as Christine Evans) wound up working at WHDH Radio and/or the original WHDH-TV for some two decades from the mid-1940's to the mid-1960's.

It's also interesting that Johnny Carson was a guest on Perry Como's NBC variety show that night. I wonder if he had already agreed to succeed Jack Paar as host of the "Tonight Show" by the time he appeared on "Como" and perhaps announced "Perry, I'm leaving 'Who Do You Trust' at the end of September to take over 'The Tonight Show'".

BTW, Como's show was actually titled "The Kraft Music Hall" (although there were some comedy segments), in deference to sponsor Kraft Foods.

Pass the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (or is it Kraft Cheese and Macaroni?), please! I want some!

I don't think Carson was named as the new host until March. He had 6 months remaining on his ABC deal at that point and NBC used guest hosts (including Jack Paar) from March through September. Carson did make at least one guest appearance on NBC while waiting - there was a clip on YouTube where he pops up as one of Mitch Miller's Sing Along Gang.

Here is Johnny singing with Mitch Miller

The clip on You Tube was a rebroadcast as in the ending credits there is a VO promoting a Detroit-Montreal hockey game and Mr. Roberts which would indicate the show aired in April of 1966.
